I wonder how different her transition would have been received if she was not part of the Kardashian clan. I mean, seriously, Bruce Jenner was The World's Greatest Athlete. Regardless of his marriage to Kris, he was famous in his own right. I believe a lot of the drama out there does have to do with the Kardashians and their standing as attention and money grubbing people who are famous for being famous and her connection to them.

The association really does affect it imo. Because her speech was great, until they panned to the audience and his bio kids were in the way back while the stable of famewhores were front and center. It just made sigh out loud. They really do disgust me.

This may be a stupid question, but was ALL of the facial surgery necessary? Or did she get so much because, as a former member of the K-tribe, that's just what is done?

I kind of agree, actually. But I hate to be harsh. The lips especially and eyes/eyebrows look so fake. I hope they're mostly fillers and will settle down in time.
I'm sure the K influence was strong. Just seeing that as the norm every day would affect your perception of what a woman should look like. I hope she knows she would be beautiful without all of that, but there's no way to know.

I just saw a commercial for "I Am Cait" and I noticed that, in motion and from a few angles she looks quite like Khloe.

I'm not in her head, but I agree with the notion that her ideas about what to do with her face were heavily influenced by her environment and, well, literally keeping up with those Kardashians. That said, I applaud her mightily for becoming Caitlyn and not Kaitlyn.

Interesting - E! hired two LA-based therapists and Jennifer Finney Boylan, the national co-chair of GLAAD’s board of directors, to oversee Caitlyn's series. It looks like they really are trying to be sensitive about the subject and are trying to approach it properly. The Hollywood Reporter released their review of the first episode, and they said that while yes, there is some Kardashian stuff (Kim comes by and passes judgement on her new wardrobe, Kylie comes by and dyes Caitlyn's hair green), it is mostly sensitive and has some good moments (We see Caitlyn's mom seeing her as Caitlyn for the first time, and then Caitlyn goes to visit the family of a transgender teen who had recently committed suicide, and actually mostly just sits quietly and listens to the mother talk about her son).

She seems to be incredibly proacfive and dedicated to helping others in the journey. That is so awesome that it makes me tear up a little. She's has done a good job of advocating, especially for youth.
She's definitely a bit...influenced by the whole Kardashian phenom, and I don't really plan to watch any show, etc, but I love, love, love what she has put out there for kids. I'm feeling super fortunate and in awe that Caitlyn's journey exists today for others to watch and consider. As shitty as so much is in the US right now, in so many ways, I love that I get to raise my kids in this time, too.
And on a totally shallow note? I think her name skews young, and I think she would have made a kick-ass Elizabeth, Catherine, Victoria, Margarer, etc. actually, I think she looks like a Margo.

Yeah, her name is way too young for her. I've heard that's a thing that happens with people who transition late in life. She could have been Cathleen or Catherine and still gone by by Cate (to avoid the dreaded "K" names).

Deadline's (video) review of "I Am Cait:" linkI'm happy that the show seems to be doing what she wanted, that being bring awareness of the struggles of the transgender community and champion them, but I cringe at the whole "of course the Kardashians all appear to appease the E watching crowd." I swear, they taint everything just a little bit. Or just Cate.
