Yeah, her name is way too young for her. I've heard that's a thing that happens with people who transition late in life. She could have been Cathleen or Catherine and still gone by by Cate (to avoid the dreaded "K" names). Interesting. I would have thought the opposite - that someone would choose a name closer to their age group, like the names narm mentioned. No particular reason why I thought this, I guess I am imagining 5 year old Bruce thinking, "why are they calling me a boy's name and not a girl's name like <insert name popular in 1950's>" and having that name as a constant, almost as a comfort. But like many of you I love that she chose a name beginning with a k/hard c sound and chose the c spelling. I think she looks like Mariska Hargatay.

I just googled name choice of people who transition and found some really interesting discussions. I agree that Caitlyn is quite young-seeming, although my cousin with a similar spelling is 30+ something now, so it's not really *that* young.

In the middle of "I Am Cait." I love her sister and mom. Kylie is so pretty when she is smiling with her family and not pouting for her selfies.

I caught just the last 15 minutes of this, and Kanye was there saying something about how Kim is a supermodel. Maybe it works in context?

I caught just the last 15 minutes of this, and Kanye was there saying something about how Kim is a supermodel. Maybe it works in context? I LMAO at this. And Kim's "Oh, Kanye, you're so sweet" face. I was like "oh, is he talking about Kendall?" but they're so Kimye-centric, I doubt it. Those scenes were the weakest, most self-absorbed, of the hour, no surprise. And from the previews for the season, when Kim tells Cait "this is your moment, but don't bash US on your way up." First of all, I hate the Kardashian viewpoint of Cait being "on her way up" rather than what I would hope is her bigger measure, that being shining a positive spotlight on the transgender community (which she herself has said is her objective). I think I may have to record this so I can FF thru all the Kardashian bullshit that's still going to be present. The stuff with her mom and sisters last night was very good, though.

I watched the episode tonight, and I've just decided that the Kardashians/Jenners just don't live in the same world we do. Their reality is just completely different from most people's.
Kylie's visit was sweet, but also felt like a subtle push for her line of hair extensions. It was nice that Kim and Kanye stopped by, but other than Kanye having to make small talk with relatives he's never seen before (who hasn't been there), it just felt scripted. And while Kim is joking here about setting her mother up for a public "who wore it best" situation, the previews show her chastising Caitlyn for saying not-necessarily-nice things in the VF interview (like Kris didn't talk shit about her in the wake of the divorce and the family didn't pull shit like allowing her to find out about Khloe's wedding via the news). And when Kim was on the phone she was all, "You cannot disappoint!" it wasn't a show of encouragement, but a warning not to ruin the brand. Because it is all about the brand and whatever Kris is dictating.
And Caitlyn is in that world too. She's surrounded by hair and makeup people seemingly constantly (though kudos for whoever gave her the red lipstick look in the previews - she looked great). There's even shots of her mother in the makeup chair. We take a tour of her closet filled with designer clothes given to her by the designers. It's all just...weird. I can see why the Jenner kids didn't want to be involved.
But her mother was really sweet, and her sister Pam seems cool (didn't see much of sister Lisa). Caitlyn's heart is clearly in the right place, and she clearly sees this as an important mission. There were some moments that did feel truly genuine. I wonder if the comments about worrying that the Kardashians are only publicly supporting her is really a thing or just setting up a storyline for later. I'll probably watch again, mostly to see the non-Kardashian moments, like her hanging out with other trans women, and I wonder if Candis Cayne is really asking her out or just a friend proposing they have dinner.
Kim looks more and more like Kris as she gets older. Or maybe they just share a plastic surgeon.

I tried to watch it last night, but when those Khardasians, such as Kylie, appeared and the others were calling Caitlyn on the phone, I couldn't take it anymore, and changed the channel. I detest the sight of those Khardasians and never watch any of their reality shows, and as interesting as Caitylyn's story may be, if they will be infiltrating her show, I will not be watching it.

When Kanye spoke, I guess I assumed he meant Kim was the supermodel, but I guess he might have meant Kendall, which is slightly less ludicrous.

(OT - I'm a 40 year old Caitlin. I'm definitely older than most Caitlin's I encounter and I spell it right.)

Caitlyn was born in 1949, and that year, Joyce and Bruce were #26. Sandra, Deborah, Kathleen and some of the other names suggested here were in the top 20. Caitlyn (with that spelling) is currently #463, and in 1949, that name was Dee, but Sharlene and Rosalinda were on either side of that.
