Thank you for the explanation. I suppose it's possible that Jill and Derick just assume that everyone knows who they are with and what they are up to and don't feel the need the elaborate. I'm still not convinced there isn't something funky going on, though. My experience with fundraising for service (not missionary) trips is that there is a monetary goal that is set and any additional donations are promised to go to the service organization the individual is traveling with. Jill and Derick haven't stated a donation goal, which would be understandable if they are planning on staying in Central America indefinitely (and who could blame them!). But then, shouldn't they specify the amount needed for monthly expenses and promise excess donations to go to their organization (S.O.S.)? Is it typical of individual missionaries to continuously ask for unlimited donations without specifying where the money is going, other than the vague "spreading the word of Jesus" talk? Maybe the promise to proselytize is considered priceless among believers, and again, Jill and Derick just assume everyone who visits their blog feels the same way.

Or maybe Jill and Derick could just get real jobs that pay their expenses, and then scratch their "serving the Lord" itch by teaching Sunday school, organizing a food bank or playing bingo with lonely seniors. You know, like most Christians do.
"They'll know we are Christians by our love" goes the song, not "They'll know we are Christians by the number of foreign countries we can visit via donations from strangers and by how many people we can proselytize to and by how many mini-me's we can pop out."

I don't get missionary work in Central America. Last I heard, there is a pretty big Catholic presence in that area - something tells me they know all about Jesus.

In the world of the Duggars, Catholics are doing it wrong and need to be righted. They have been trying for years to convert Catholics into what their idea is of proper Christians. That's basically their mission in Central America. When Ben was first "courting" Jessa he made the mistake of openly posting Gothard/Duggar beliefs on his facebook page back when the Duggars were chugging along with their "independent Baptist" shtick in order to create a broader fanbase that would bring in more money. (TLC was also actively portrayed the Duggars as plain old Baptists) This sentiment is what drives the missionary work in Catholic-dominant countries. Jill and Derick are currently trying to turn the Catholics away from the deadly errors in order to save them. Day in and day out. This is their life at the moment. It's an entirely ridiculous waste of time, energy, and resources if you ask me.

Also, beyond the general loathing for Catholicism, there is a huuuuuuuge swell of interest in evangelical Christianity, for various reasons.

There is, but evangelicals are making a big impact down there and in South America because the Church is often seen as an organ of the State which has become corrupted.

Also, evangelical Christianity (and Mormonism, sometimes) is seen as more American, more modern, and sometimes more locally responsive, or any of the above in combination. FWIW, the two Hispanic GOP candidates are Protestant/evangelical.

Jessa and Ben were spotted at a movie theater in NC, and the assumption is that they went to see the new Kirk Cameron produced flick War Room since it was released past weekend (that probably explains why they had to travel to NC just to see a movie). Here's the synopsis: Here's the trailer: LINKPoor Anna is probably trying to set up her war room as we speak. Unfortunately, she doesn't have anybody like Miss Clara to help her out. I've watched both Fireproof and Courageous, and they weren't half bad. I got suckered into watching Courageous one night when I couldn't sleep without knowing what it was about. It was engaging and enjoyable until, all of the sudden out of fucking nowhere, one of the characters started going HEAVY into the Jesus talk. Alex Kendrick, who wrote and directed these movies, has some talent (he would have been the perfect guy for those afterschool specials back in the day). It's a shame he's an ultra-religious nutbag who limits his artistic possibilities. Amy Duggar is so over it: Oh Snap! I wonder if she is lashing out at Josh or the whole clan. It's hard to tell.

I'd feel sorrier for her if her real last name wasn't Jordan. She only used Duggar for the popularity.
I do think it's interesting that she's publicly agreeing with Michael Seewald. I wonder if that's the newest tactic for the Duggar's to get back on TV, publicly shame Josh. I wonder if they're going to shun him if that doesn't work.
