I see Clarence “recused” himself from the SOTU address.
So he DOES know how to do it.

SCOUTS was getting their butts spanked in the beginning of this speech. I can see why Thomas didn't want to be there. He should continue doing that for the next few important cases.

I don't know how many people are following the dragging my state's senator, Katie Britt, is getting after her super weird response to the State of the Union address. Full disclosure: I voted for her. She was the least crazy option of the people running (one of whom was former Rep. Mo Brooks, who warmed up the crowd at the capitol on Jan. 6). I actually don't think she's crazy but she represents Alabama so she's had to cater to the MAGA crowd. So it's been somewhat satisfying to see her get dragged for coming off as so disingenuous. The cold open for SNL last night is a thing of beauty. I wonder if she'll be flattered that they got Scarlett Johansson to portray her?

A friend who follows the nuances of politics more closely than I do pointed out that Buck's resignation from Congress effective next week means that Colorado will have to hold a special election to fill his seat. His is the district that Boebert was planning on running in as she's unlikely to win the next election in her own district.

I was thinking about it in terms of it being easier for her being an established member of congress without an incumbent. But you're right - if he makes a path for someone else to be an incumbent, that could change things!

It’s pretty bad when the pundits across the spectrum, liberal and conservative are in agreement that this was a spectacularly bad response to the SOTU. Until now, Britt had benefited from her close association to Shelby and his classical conservatism. But when she went full MAGA in the rebuttal, she lost a lot of credibility from the Never Trumpers and didn’t gain any support from the Trumpers. Alabama gonna Alabama.

I'm shocked, shocked, to learn that T***p can't post his bond in the New York civil fraud case. Editing to add: But I'm very, very amused that for MacKenzie Scott, giving away more than that amount is just another Tuesday.

He’s selling Bibles for $59.99 a pop. As a Christian, I’m offended. As a human, I’m disgusted. As an American living in 2024, I’m not surprised.
