I had one brief encounter with her at an awards party 3 years ago. She pitched a fit at having to wear a wrist band (which celebs wear to EVERY party. We made it loose and told her she could take it off once she got inside. As an aside, she was not the only one to bitterly complain). I think part of the problem was she was the only person to bring her publicist as her +1. Certainly didn't help matters. She was just awkward. Doesn't do small talk. Didn't want to associate with us 'little people'.

Wow.... now, I no longer feel bad about my 20-year-old resentment over "My So-Called Life". Heh, that's another thing she gets bitchy about. If someone/an interviewer asks her about My So-Called Life she gets huffy and snappish. Anne Hathaway being asked about Princess Diaries is warm and lovely by comparison.

I've only seen her in Little Women and she was bland and boring as heck.
Why does she get upset when people ask about MSCL?

Haven't we always known that she's a pretentious snob? I remember discussing this way back on that other board.

She was unapologetic about the Billy Crudup situation, taking about how she "chose" to fall in love with him and act with "integrity." Never mind she didn't care that he was in a years-long relationship with a woman who was 7-months pregnant at the time. She said that anyone who criticized her for it were just projecting their own failures onto her. "YER JUS JELLUS!!11!" Yeah, for me she's never completely shaken off her A-hole status from that situation. I don't like to blame the other person (and I do think Crudup is the bigger asshole), but if you know you're hooking up with someone whose longterm partner is 7 months pregnant... you kinda suck. As a Fannibal, I try as much as possible to ignore the fact that Hugh Dancy is married to her.

Her career was not really going anywhere before she got Temple Grandin and then Homeland. Claire is not a film actress and I don't think people like her enough to really seek out her movies.
Her awards speeches are just painful. For someone this long in the business it's amazing how she just can't pretend not to be a snobby ass. Just like Fishstick I guess ;-)

Who knows what really went down behind the scenes, but it's tackay to step out with a dude who drops his ex when her feet are about to hit the stirrups. Not sure why she is so twisty about MSCL. That people even remember and still praise a show that was on for a hot minute 20 years ago is pretty impressive. A number of cast members including her went on to have decent careers and win Oscars and awards and in Rayanne's case a friggin castle fully tricked out (not made at her for that one. royalty is not a bad gig). Never did see Temple Grandin. Didn't it win a bunch of awards for a 2 year span? Isn't that abnormal? Was it worth the hype and trophy love?

Who would have imagined 20 years ago that Jordan Catalano would win an Oscar, Rayanne Graffe would become a Countess, and Angela Chase would be a "homewrecker"? You're right, the cast has done pretty well for themselves. No bad child actor stories that I know of. I would think that Danes would be especially grateful to MSCL since she was the breakout star and it led to movie roles.

True confession that's slightly OT: I always though Rayanne was prettier than Angela Chase. [/small voice] I'm pleasantly surprised Jared Leto turned out to be more than a pretty face. Good for him! Why would Claire Danes be twisty about being asked about MSCL anyway? It wasn't perceived publicly to be as cheesy as 90210; she should be proud. no?

Even now, it's still regarded highly by critics. It's not like she played Steve Urkel or Wesley Crusher. If Wil Wheaton can embrace Wesley and be hilarious about it, there's really no excuse.
