Heh. I actually think she and Alba are on the same level talent-wise and fame-wise (although they are very different types of starlet). I don't know if it is true that Kate turned down those roles, but it doesn't surprise me that she and Alba are getting the same sorts of offers. Both are famous enough to get their pictures in the tabloids, and both are pretty (although I find Alba to be much sexier than Bosworth). Right now, Alba has got the edge but if Superman hits it big,
I think Kate has had a pretty interesting (if ultimately uninspired) career so far. Nothing terribly mind-blowing acting-wise or super-successful financially, but she has done a sports film, romantic comedy, art house biopics, and a summer blockbuster - she seems to be trying to vary the types of parts she plays. She hasn't had the best choice in scripts or films, but I also don't see her as particularly lazy. I mean, she probably isn't getting the best scripts (especially if it is true that she got offered stuff like Fantastic Four) and might have truly been waiting for something interesting. I think she has taken risks as an actress, they just haven't paid off for her. I honestly don't think she is the greatest actress and I don't think I will ever be blown away by her abilities (but I could say the same about tons of young starlets out there at the moment) but if she is trying to wait for better roles, more power to her, and if she is just chillin' with her (fake?) boyfriend, well.... I can think of worse things. They might be trying to make their relationship work and she might be the one willing to take a break so that they can spend more time together.
That said, I have read comments she has made and she often comes across as trying to sound sophisticated, cultured and spoiled. She doesn't have the most attractive personality (in print) and she isn't particularly talented. I can absolutely understand the hate, but I can't join in - I sort of like her.

(This probably wasn't in response to my post, but just in case...) Nobody should have to justify snarking on celebrities; they totally deserve it! I can't stand Jessica Alba and Keira Knightley, and really, who knows why? They just bug. What surprises me about KB is the well-defined and very strong dislike for someone who just seems so...well, blah. Like, what's to hate OR like about her? So my saying "I don't get the hate" is just that. No explanation needed (just like I wouldn't want to have to justify my Knightley hate. Ugh, that girl).
In other news, I will say that many public figures put forth a different face in public than they do in private. I don't think that's unique to Miss B, nor do I think it's a particularly bad thing.

Like others have said, as (current and former) Orlando fans, we have been exposed to her on a much greater level than anyone else, because she's everywhere. In order to enjoy him, we were required to choke down a big dose of her whether we wanted to or not. We got to see a different side of her than the casual observer who may have only briefly glanced at the giggly, cutesy Barbie doll persona she presented.
But that's just perception, and everyone's will be different. I wish all I saw was the fluffy little Princess and not the rude, anorexic, moronic phony. Or at the very least, I wish everyone saw the moron, because that would make the snark much more universal and satisfying. Right now I'm almost afraid to snark, because like flamethrower says, I always end up having to justify it.
So can we agree to disagree? Some people really love her and have what they believe are good reasons for doing so. They're not idiots with no taste for feeling that way. Others loathe her with the fire of a thousand burning nuns and have what they feel are good reasons for doing so (reasons that have little or nothing to do with Elf Dick, BTW). They're not horrible, jealous ogres that drown kittens in their spare time. Even though it wouldn't be a big loss if this particular thread got locked for good, I'd hate to see it happen because we can't accept each other's opinions.

That seems really judgemental to me. Taking a break from work doesn't make a person lazy. There could be a dozen perfectly reasonable explanations for that. Maybe she was burned out/disillusioned that of all the movies she'd done, none were any good and she wanted to take stock of her career. Or maybe she just figured she'd do nothing but enjoy herself for a while on what she'd earned so far. All of which is fair enough, I say. Well, I guess if she had been working on movies back to back to back, I'd agree she'd deserve a break. Look at her filmography and see just how many movies she's been in. Superman Returns (2006) .... Lois Lane Bee Season (2005) .... Chali walk-on roleBeyond the Sea (2004) .... Sandra Dee Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! (2004) .... Rosalee Futch Advantage Hart (2003) .... Trinity Montage small part, from what I understandWonderland (2003) .... Dawn Schiller The Rules of Attraction (2002) .... Kelly ensemble castBlue Crush (2002) .... Anne Marie Chadwick Remember the Titans (2000) .... Emma Hoyt minor partSo, from Blue Crush in 2002 to present she has had 4 good sized roles. In 4 years. No one needs a year long vacation after that little work. I work 51 weeks a year and work a helluva lot harder than she does and you don't see me taking off for a year to be with my boyfriend. That's why I think she's "lazy." If she had taken that time to work on her acting and make herself better so her movies don't flop, I wouldn't be saying anything. But, she didn't. You say to-may-toh, I say to-mah-toh. What you see as a well-deserved break, I see as someone who doesn't really want to work, but wants to be famous and rides the coattails of her more famous boyfriend. *shrugs*

Is Orlando even famous enough to HAVE coattails? Two years ago he might have had a shot, but now? Not so much. Any coattails is good coattails though, I guess.

Bosworth could be riding his Legolas weave. That was long.

The different eye colors she has freaks me out. Then you'll be relieved to know that she doesn't really have two different colored eyes. She has blue eyes, but one has a brown splotch in it.* The rest is probably the result of either Photoshopping or a colored contact lens. I suppose the eye thing was hyped up to make her seem "unique." Not that I would ever suggest that something about her is fake... *You can see this in some candids
