It was just very uncomfortable to watch, I think. And was totally the opposite of what the show usually was and her usually Rosie personality.

I'm just happy Rosie got the "View" job instead of Patricia Heaton, because I really, really hate Patricia Heaton.
I don't even watch "The View" but I know whoever gets the job will be all over the media and I can't stomach the idea of Patricia being all over the media. Loud as she is, I'd rather see Rosie.

Actually, she was the opposite of loud. She was doing her "this is how we argue politely" voice they teach you in grade school.
I didn't think she came off so badly in the Selleck debate, but she was becoming more and more annoying at that time. She was clearly making no effort anymore when it came to the show--wearing dumpy clothes, not doing her hair, not doing any preparation. She stopped doing the show live because it was too much trouble. She stopped disguising her bad moods. She obviously didn't want to be there anymore. She said later that she was in a depressed state at the time that was set off by Columbine.

Poor Frances Thank you for digging up that transcript becasue that's how I remembered it as well. Since that episode I have had a burning hatred for Tom Selleck. I personally felt that Rosie got a bum deal on that one. TS was a big ole hypocrite in my book. Mr. "I am the NRA (and I cash their checks) but I'm not a spokesman".
I do think that Rosie is an unusual choice but I still looking forward to it because I think she'll really shake it up. And I figure the only person she'll get along with is the one erson I like - Joy.

Whoa, were they actually considering Patricia Heaton? If so, I am so so glad that Rosie got the gig. I'd rather listen to Rosie tell everyone they're gonna get cancer every day than watch two minutes of Patricia Heaton.

He contradicts himself in the transcript, though, which I didn't realize at the time. That ad was everywhere for awhile, and it showed Tom in a full-page shot with a rifle slung over his shoulder and saying, "I'm Tom Selleck for the NRA," etc. I'm assuming he got paid for it, so if you're a celebrity getting paid to appear in ads to promote an organization I don't know how you're not a spokesman. But anyway, in the transcript he says he joined "three months ago to do the ad" then he says he was a junior member of the NRA as a kid. Also, he belongs to the NRA but he doesn't hang out with anyone from it? Huh?
Anyway, as for Rosie joining the View, I think it's a mistake. Her show worked because she was willing to pretend to be nice and cheery. She talked about Broadway and Disney cartoons and was so adamant about her kids' privacy that she refused to show any photos of them. Now she posts photos of her kids on her blog and has them in her documentary, and she disavowed her Queen of Nice image and is content to be nasty and bitter. I don't think that'll fly in morning talk.

Competely disagree. Ellen's show is soooooo boring and completely derivative. Rosie's talk show was much more interesting and she seemed to be interested in her guests. I'll taking Rosie throwing cooj balls over Ellen dancing to lame hip hop any day.

I wonder what The View is hoping to accomplish by having Rosie on the show. Are the ratings falling?

I think adding Rosie might help the ratings. I've only watched the show once, when Shakira was performing. Strangely enough, Rosie was a guest host that day and was the one to interview Shakira. Rosie came off really friendly and interesting in her appearance.
Now that Rosie's being added full-time, I might actually watch the show.

What is Rosie's motivation for coming back to the spotlight and the daily grind of daytime talk? Does she need the money? Does she need her ego stroked?
