Not sure how it's in other countries (same I guess) but I really hate the super-aggressive promo (ads) every time Coldplay release a "new" album. "The best band in the world....is back!" Please. Is that supposed to be funny? Because, yes, I laughed when I heard that...

Pretty interesting considering Martin's attitude towards the media. I can't think of another "rock" group who advertises their albums with t.v. commercials.

The only ads I've seen are the iTunes ones, and to be fair, U2 had similar commercials with their single Vertigo. I say "go for it!" God knows radio doesn't play varied music anymore.

I liked "Yellow" when it came out but, after that, they began to bug me.
Two summers ago I got set up on a sort-of blind date and when we were in this guy's enormous SUV (bad sign) on the way to dinner, he put in a Coldplay album (worse sign) and began singing along to the lyrics (even worse sign). It turned out to be one of the worst, most confusing dates I've ever been on. In retrospect, I think the guy was really gay, but I don't want to saddle gay people with the stigma of Coldplay, so I won't draw any connections there.
Someone I know, who is probably as pretentious as Chris Martin, called Coldplay's lyrics "sophomoric." He had a point, though.

I like the expanded vocal range on the new album. I've never been a fan but I really like the new disc. That's right, I said it. And I hate his wife (and therefore doubt his aesthetic choices), think he comes off as a twerp in interviews and find his lyrics way too obvs. And yet? Good album.
OT to litzikohanovich: check your PMs...

Congrats to Coldplay on their first #1 single in the US and most likely, another top album. The Martin-Paltrow household seems to be having a very good year so far. I do like the new CD, though I'm a bit iffy the sound mixing, as it seems to drown out the vocals on a few songs. Whatever vibe they are going for with "Yes" doesn't mesh with those faux military jackets they've been wearing while promoting this album so far, though Jacko sang mindless pop songs in full regalia for years and it didn't seem to hurt his career at the time. *shrugs*

It's a different feel than the previous albums, but I like it.
Then again, if Coldplay put out an album of nursery rhymes sung in Mandarin Chinese I would still like the album.
Oh, congrats guys on your first U.S. #1. I believe it's been a while since an English group has reached the top of the U.S. charts. I think the Spice Girls were the last group to do it.

Can you imagine the smugness going around the Paltrow/Martin household at this point?
