I never saw Gladiator, so maybe that's why I never 'got' RC's brand of sexiness, but it sounds to me like he's trying to be the Oliver Reed of his generation.
When Michael Crawford was making CondorMan (love that film - I know, shut up), with Oliver Reed, from what he said, Oliver had a habit of 'carrying over' his emotions from his part - so if you played his enemy, you were his enemy. Michael said that he was relieved that he'd played Oliver's brother in a previous film, otherwise he would have had one hell of a bad time filming CondorMan.
That cartoon is far better looking than RC.

Hey Pepper! Interesting observations, seems Crowe as usual is blind to the truth. Read what he said about Oliver Reed: "Gladiator" co-star Oliver Reed -- notorious for his brawling, boozing ways -- died during the shoot, and Crowe, in polite but clear terms, places distance between their lifestyles. "Mate, he did that to himself," Crowe says. "I have little time for the Oliver Reeds of this business. I'm not pleased that he's gone. In fact, I never had a drink with Oliver, because I didn't want to encourage him. I'll go for long periods without a drink. When I'm on the farm by myself, it's not something I even think about. But I'm not afraid to have a beer in front of a studio executive. That doesn't make me a wild man."No, it doesn't -- but gashing a hotel employee in the face by hurling a phone at them does. link Another interesting quote from the same article, perhaps explains some of Crusty's rage: You could conclude that Crowe has it all. He chooses from the best scripts, works with the top talent, then leaves it all behind for his ranch. But he knows there's something missing. He's not a father, and there's no immediate prospect of becoming one. By his own admission, he was a difficult son. Perhaps that would make him a better father? Who knows? But what strikes deeper is that Crowe, as rooted in family as he is, may never find out.
"I've been thinking about this for a long time," Crowe says. "I'd like to be a father. But it's not something I can do by myself. I'm a lot more patient now than before, which is perhaps good. But I'm counting the years: 'Even if I get married and have a baby tomorrow, I'm going to be 57 when the kid is 20.' Frankly, this is starting to drive me nuts."Actually Crusty, you'll be 60 when the kid is 20. Heh-heh. LMAO. ;D But seriously, looking at that quote again -- it's very telling. First of all, as usual -- it wouldn't be Crowe, if it wasn't ALL about him. Who cares what your age will be - you don't embark on the journey just for appearances sake. If that's what he did, married likety-split so he could breed, and not be an old Dad, well then DAYUM...no wonder he's enraged all the time. He may just be finding out it wasn't worth it. It sounds like what drove Crusty to the altar was this need to reproduce pronto - perhaps now that he's gone and done it, he realizes that he's not only the 'old man Dad,' that he feared - but that he's off the market, and not as appealing to the masses. He's essentially been neutered. He's got only his handbag to appease him, but it's as obvious as a hotel phone to the right temple that she evidently doesn't do to good a job of it (he can't even get her to live at the ranch he loves so much!) Crusty's ego needs regular feedings. If his movies bomb, if reporters loathe him, and the opposite sex think he's not 'all that,' cuz he's all married up...then frankly, he's not getting the stroking from the biz that drives him and fulfills him. That's when Crusty may attack. Conditions were really right for him to freak, what with Bierko getting amazing reviews, Crusty looking like an arse clown in the press attacking a co-star, his film doing poorly at the box office, etc. What's even more short-sided, he's ensuring that the old Olsen twin that he married will hold ALL the cards should they split, as he's solidifying his image as a total nutjob. Ohhhh yeah...Crusty is only going to get MORE and MORE nasty..... Extra butter please.

God! Crowe's got room to talk, hasn't he, cliniquia?? Flaming hell - talk about heading down the same road without reading the signposts!
Oliver Reed would have scraped Crowe off his shoes.

No but taking cheap shots at the DEAD, makes you a fucking arsehole of epic proportions, Manboobs.
Another difference between himself and Reed that he failed to notice - Reed was an agressive, brawling bastard after he had several litres of grog under his skin. Crowe is bitter, aggressive bastard every hour of every day, liquored up or no. And I doubt Reed would have cared for FuckBucket, sober or otherwise.
Who asks him for this ongoing commentary? The magnitude of his ego is staggering. He pisses me off royally.
Is Rocky VIICinderella Man really considered a flop? I know it didn't open in the top 3 of the box office listing, but it does seem to be getting good reviews, though not necessarily because of FuckBucket.
And Fox, what's a kruller? </Austral-yun>

dool - a kruller is a kind of doughnut or fried cake, consumed with coffee whilst perusing the morning newspaper....
I laughed when David Letterman said last night "did you see Russell Crowe being led away in handcuffs wearing his Cinderalla Man jacket? Ladies and gentlemen, you can't BUY better publicity than that!"

Russell's Shame. Not only is he facing jail time, but he has endangered his visa, so he may not be able to work in the US anymore. Boo hoo, asshole. This is typical. He goes on a violent rampage and then apologizes and tries to get sympathy by showing how sensitive and vulnerable he is. I hope he doesn't practice this behavior at home.

I also caught a brief mention on the news that he was literally crying to police officers. So not only is he a pompous blowhard with huge boobs, he is also a crybaby as well. What a puss. Shoot I was arrested when I was 14, stuck in adult jail over night and I never shed a tear. So much for the tough guy.
