A director I worked with was not a big fan of Brad's acting, especially in Legends of the Fall. His comment about that movie, which I thought was hilarious, was "He's making choices. They're all terrible choices, but at least he's making choices."
I will always give Brad a pass for his appearance on the Friends Thanksgiving episode where everyone kept talking about hot he is. Especially Phoebe. It was just meta enough to be adorable.

His acting has improved over the years, and I think he got very good at choosing roles that relied on his natural charisma, like Fight Club and Ocean's 11.

A River Runs Through It and Legends of the Fall are the Golden Age of Brad Pitt. Peak hotness, IMO. I think the tortured characters he played added to it. You just wanted to make it all better. Come here, honey, let me help you through this personal tragedy/existential angst. Ditto Interview with the Vampire - poor Louis. Brad Pitt owned '94 and '95. Too bad he couldn't thpeak around his fangth.

I really liked Pitt in 12 Monkeys and Burn After Reading. I think he’s a character actor in a leading man’s body. See Alec Baldwin.
Once Baldwin got fat and was no longer “a Baldwin,” you could see how funny he is. 30 Rock was a revelation!

I'm sorry. Was he saying words in Legend of the Fall? I can't recall...

I would also say he's the weak link in Interview with a Vampire. His freakout when the house is burning down is, for me, absolutely hilarious. This place is cursed! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Cruise jumping around being Tom Cruise in vampire costume was more distracting to me than Brad looking morose and pretty.
Now that I think about it, Stephen Rea kind of sucks in that movie too.
I don't care, it's a cheesefest but I still love it.

I love how in Ocean's 11 he's eating in every scene. And speaks Mandarin, which IMHO is the best joke in the movie.

Pitt isn’t an actor who will get me to pay to see a movie, like say Harrison Ford. He is not a reason I absolutely wouldn’t pay, like Tom Cruise.
I think my favourite performance of Brad’s was Snatch.
