I think it's a combination of a lot of things to explain Brad's success. His looks were important, no doubt about it, but a lot of hot actors have come and go and we don't hear about them anymore. I think it's a combination of looks, role diversity (he fought against the pretty boy cliche and did California, 12 monekys, etc), PR savviness, the obssession from the media with his relationships, good work ethics, international appeal that keeps him at the top paid lists, and talent. He also embodies that wholesome Midwestern boy image, the looks, the laid-back personality, the upbringing and the fact that he was never into heavy drugs or scandals like his peers at the time, River Phoenix, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr, etc. The 90s were also a time when audiences were a lot more loyal to the actors once they liked them, it was probably the last generation who profited from that. There were no celebrity blogs, not that many tabs and generally less info about celebs than it is today which preserved an air of mystery around them. Co-sign.

I agree with a lot of that, Plush. There has always seemed to be something almost 'retro' about Brad. He's a serial monogamist in a world in which he could have had anyone, anywhere, anytime. He seems to have a midwestern grounding that differentiates him from his more drug-addled (and arguably more talented) peers. I don't begrudge him that. Good for him for not becoming a gross, strung-out skeeze. His drug/s is/are legal - ego and fame - not drugs and ho's.
I'm sure a high percentage of us would become egomaniacs if we were in the situation he's been in for the past decade+. That doesn't mean I forgive him for it, really. I'd always like my famous people to be thoughtful and introspective, but it doesn't mean I don't recognize he's not actively hurting or using people, when he could be (and when so many of his peers are).

Or he could be a raging asshole with excellent PR people.

Or he could be a raging asshole with excellent PR people. True enough. But at least he's not jumping on couches or walking around with Angelina's neck in his death-grip all the time. He looks like he genuinely enjoys his children, which is more than can be said for some other actors. I think BP is "meh" ~ never have seen him as some gorgeous guy who makes me melt ~ but if he's a total jerk, he hides it well in public, and considering the amount of press he gets, that's impressive and would mean that he's a better actor than lots of people give him credit for.

That clip was so cute. He probably is funny in real life. He does look like he really enjoys being a dad.

Two things cemented that fact that I cannot hate Brad Pitt - his appearance on Jackass and the documentary he did with Bart the Bear's family. Oddly enought, there's a less funny sketch of him on Jackass in a bear costume.

Wait, isn't he in a gorilla costume in Jackass?

Oops, yeah, gorilla. Got bears on my mind. That was the cutest documentary.

Tom Cruise may be Scientology-crazy and Brad may not ever win an Oscar, but Interview With a Vampire is in my Top 5 movies and I think both of them are smokin hot and captivating in it. Amen. There is a scene early in the movie where they're playing poker and Brad could not be any hotter. I have nothing deeper than that!
