So right!
Isn't it time Disney is investigated? Too many of their teen stars are off the rails and not prepared for the real world.

My personals theory is that child stardom itself is what screws them up. I can't imagine trying to be a grounded, sane person when you've grown up being told how awesome and special you are (by people you're paying) and you can have anything you want. What would actually have meaning anymore after that? Can those kids equate the time they spend 'working' (either playacting and dress up or singing and dancing, neither of which might seem like actual work) with 'earning' things? It has to screw with them, and I think that's why so many of them are so vulnerable to con artists and cults. They're desperate to find meaning or fulfillment. Just like most people, but they're doing it on a whole different level.

I think in a perfect world you would either not have child actors/performers at all, or child actors would only be allowed to work for a year or so then nothing until they're eighteen, or something else I haven't thought of. It is actually a little surprising to me that there's never been any significant wave of backlash against Disney (or any other agency/production company with a lot of child stars)--I guess at least part of it is that the child star derailing tends to involve becoming pretty unlikeable, so no one cares that much.

I don't think Disney, Nickelodeon etc are blameless at all, however, I think a big part are the parents. There are plenty of child stars who have (seemingly) gone on to transition into normal adults. A few that I can name off the top of my head- Joseph Gordon Levitt, Natalie Portman (although freaking pretentious and annoying), Emma Watson. I'm sure there are plenty more but I think they having parents who were parents and not parents/managaers/agents etc and emphasized education as well really helps (although I don't think JGL went to college? Maybe he did?). I think if these child stars are up against these companies without someone to help guide them, that's where they fail. I know there are exceptions to every rule though. I agree that child actors should just be used bare minimum. The stories I've read about how Shirley Temple or Judy Garland were treated make me sick.

Parents are a big part of the issue/problem, see Dina Lohan.
I think I hold Disney a little more accountable, because of their "Brand", Family Entertainment. I'm just waiting for a scathing tell-all book from a Disney Star.
Good luck to Miley, she can sing & I wish her well!

She still has the face of a 16-year-old. I think it's just genetic. The same way Selena Gomez has the face of a wholesome, chubby 12-year-old. It's hard to take either of them seriously as any kind of actor or singer because not only do they have the face, they still have the same teenage shtick even if they're well into their twenties. Leaving the business, going to school for a while, etc. would mature the personality behind the face and make them seem more adult.

Genderless, ageless, speciesless, potless (pointless?) Miley.I feel like this is the perfect time for a "bless her heart." Am I right? I think it's appropriate, especially when combined with a, "Girl, PLEASE."

I didn't mean to say Disney isn't partially to blame, they just happen to be one of the biggest consumers of child star types. Between toxic parent and child actor mills, there are so many things wrong with the industry. I just meant to say that I don't think the problem is ENTIRELY Disney. Hope I didn't sound door slammy or anything. Dina Lohan is a real cautionary tale. My money is on Miley to write the tell all with Demi Lovato for the Exacta. You're right, too, it's gonna be a doozy.

I blame the parents. The kids don't get into the business if the parents don't take them. Often, when the kids are successful, the parents don't want their child to quit even if they want to. The parents don't want to lose all that money and access to the celebrity lifestyle. Kids can be in showbiz without turning into basket cases, but it requires good parenting.
