Just when the pain of the craptastic suckfest winning best picture has started to dull, I find out that Paul Haggis is a clam. Will the pain never end? Word has it that Crash has some Scientology philosophy in it.

Did it really? I never caught that. It was hard to catch anything else from this movie than: Racism is bad. Everyone's a racist

For some reason, I keep laughing at that. There is something very wrong with me.
I really didn't like Crash. Yeah, I get it, racism's bad. But I don't like a movie that makes me dislike my movie boyfriend, Don Cheadle (I luuurve him). And he was such an ass in this. My DVD from Netflix broke 3/4 of the way through the movie and I didn't bother to send for a replacement. What a suckfest.
I didn't get that Sandra Bullock's hubby was screwing his assistant. Am I totally thick, or is it revealed more fully at the end of the movie?
One more question: What the hell did Jennifer Esposito's character do for a living? I got the impression she was also a cop, but I don't know. I think the fact that her character was swearing at the Asian driver at the beginning of the film ruined any believability it could have had for me. I assumed she was a cop or something, and I couldn't believe for a second she'd say that crap (even if she thought it) to the cop on the scene.
I'm rambling. To sum things up: Hated it! [/Men on Film]

Well...I like this movie..ALOT! I am a simple person. ;D and don't need to analyze every scene in a film to find it engrossing. Yes, I know it was in your face with the racism issues but so what? Besides, Terrence Howard is to die for in this!
(athough I understand he might be a tool in real life.)

I was riding in the car with my dad and his future wife, and we got to talking about this film. According to Jane (future stepmom), Thandie Newton's character has only herself to blame for what happened with MAtt Dillon's character when Terrence Howard's character got stopped. If she'd have kept quiet and stayed in the car, none of it would have happened. This woman actually had the nerve to say she deserved what she got. And my dumbass dad agreed with her!

I didn't get that Sandra Bullock's hubby was screwing his assistant. Am I totally thick, or is it revealed more fully at the end of the movie? Not thick at all. If you didn't see the end because your DVD broke, you would've never caught it. I remember a little light going off in my head, and then thinking, "Dammit! Why didn't we get a scene of them screwing? I don't want to see Don Cheadle's bony ass!" Looks like Haggis knew juuuuust where to draw the line. White man molesting black woman in front of her husband? Kewliez! White man banging his gorgeous black assistant? Better hold that shit to a glance. Whatever Don Cheadle did. I think she was his partner. Moral of "Crash": Racism is bad. Mmkay?

My dad's 60, and he still has this "women belong barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen" mentality, so I don't doubt for a second that he meant it. It's scary because Jane has a teenaged daughter, and my dad has three daughters, you'd think they'd be a bit more progressive about saying a woman standing up for herself is a good thing, but, apparently not.

Moral of "Crash": Racism is bad. Mmkay? ...and it's everywhere. Don't forget that! Oh, wait, you can't forget it, because the only thing missing from Crash was every character looking out at the audience from the screen and telling you in so many words. The only thing worse than watching Crash is watching Crash at Toronto's Cumberland Theatre, where all the self-satisfied, uberCorrect cinéastes fall all over themselves trying to out-liberal each other. When the lights go up and the self-flagellation begins during the inevitably glacial exit, kill me now.
