I thought the moral was "don't feed you children bullshit stories about invisible capes or they may just jump in front of you when you're shot," which I thought was expressed pretty effectively.

I don't think this is written in any parenting book but yes, Hobocamp, I'd have to agree with you that telling your children that they can magically survive shootings is probably not the safest thing to teach them.

The movie was a tad bit overbearing at times and the situations were not realistic. Like the Don Cheadle character being asked so openly and blatantly to lie about the case of the dead cop. It would have been more subtle than that. And again the Sandra Bullock character yelling about the "gang-banging" tattooed locksmith knowingly within ear shot of everyone in the house including him.
The one situation handled with subtly and finesse was that the Nona Gaye and Brandon Frasier characters may have been having/had an affair. I like the way that was left open to interpretation.
Overall I liked this movie. I still like it. I'll definately rent it and watch it again this weekend.
I guess I', the one person not mad it won the Oscar. But then that's because I don't care too much about the Oscars anymore. A lot of the films that have come out in recent years that I enjoyed didn't get Oscars or Oscar attention. I don't think it makes Crash any better or any worse as a film now that it's got a Best Pic Oscar attached to it.

You mean they don't stay through the entire credits and block practically all exits at movies like this? rolls eyes. One of my problems is that the movie is all over the place. Any one story could have been an entire movie if written correctly and not have been nearly as overbearing. I still have a problem with some of the believability though. That whole scene with the car chase with all those policemen keyed up and with their guns out. Then Terrance Howard's character comes out of the car cussing with his hand behind his back holding a gun and the young rookie cop talks everyone out of it? and he doesn't even search his hand or the car? Bull****!!!! (Apologies for the language folks) Anyone try getting pulled over anywhere for just having a expired sticker on your car much less after having several cop cars chasing you and come out of the car yelling angry with your hand behind your back and see what happens. Here's what won't happen, the cops won't just leave and let it go. What would they say to their superiors and the people living in the neighborhood that they stopped him? "Sorry, our bad, nothing to see here." Oh and Ludacris you and your friend are bad. You steal cars right from the owners, (we get it) what could be worse than that? How about this ... oops, ran that kindly Asian gentleman down and then drove off without even calling for help, ...wait a minute maybe he's not so kindly.... ?? ad naseum. Give me a break! I don't know what is worse having to sit through this movie, or having to listen to friends and people whose opinions that I trust, tell me that they are shocked that I didn't like it. my name is Sjankis630 and I approve this message.

So still piece of trite, white liberal guilt film?
Omfg. To congratulate one another for watching a film that re-affirms stereotypes?! I shoulda been there to scoff at them.

I realize it's kind of pointless to play the "which race came out the worst" game with this movie, considering how almost none of the characters were written to resemble residents of planet Earth, but... is it just me, or did Asians really get the shaft? The only really "good" moment for them was when the wife screamed "Of course I speak English, you stupid cow!" (which was admittedly kind of hilarious). Otherwise it was all slave traders who made Ludacris look good by comparison.

Hee! (Full disclosure on my part: I almost bought a Cumberland membership when I went to see Super Size Me precisely because they were giving away a mess of McDonald's coupons with the card)
Yeah, I saw Brokeback there, too, and liked it, too. But not nearly as much -- and as loudly -- as everyone else.
I really think that Crash: The Musical! (as performed on the Academy Awards) would be hilarious.
