So, if James Bond isn't a codename, what does that mean for Idris Elba's chances to be Bond? Hopefully nothing. I would love Elba to be Bond.

Are there rumors about Idris being in the running? The way the media reacted to Bond being blond doesn't bode well for another race as Bond, jmo. I mean, he's just blond, for crissakes. Everyone was in a tizzy.

Why yes, yes there are. I'm not going to lie, I kind of want it to happen to see a massive convulsion, but that's only a small part of it. Elba's work has proven he does Bond-type characters rather well. And he looks lovely in bespoke. So, ta da!

Aw shit! I don't know if the masses are ready but I'd see him in a heartbeat.

I think they're going to make two more movies with Daniel Craig and by the time that's done they would want someone younger than Idris Elba, though it would be great if he could be Bond. Maybe he could play a fellow 00 agent in the next movie or two?

That's a good point, GF. I think JB's character only allows for a certain age bracket, naturally--esp. nowadays where the main actors are doing a lot of prep work and stunts. I think Craig and Elba are in their early 40s now...Add in another four years or so for the next two movies... Anyone remember how old Connery was during Bond? He seemed to be older.
I'd love to see Jeffrey Wright come back in the next one, and there's room for Elba too! If TPTB like him, there's no reason they can't write in a part for him. A shirtless part, preferably.
Did anyone else notice Craig's makeup during this? It didn't take me out of the movie exactly, but sometimes I was just really aware of the foundation they used--he just seemed a little too pale at times he should've been ruddy and flush, if that makes sense.
So there was a bunch of stuff that wasn't canon (I think): <<<details about Bond's parents, a childhood home, codename revelation, Bond gets shot, M dies.>>> Other than this board, I haven't heard much of a reaction about them; anyone know if hardcore JB fans are surprised or freaked out over the changes? I thought they were all great--made Bond more realistic and gave him depth.

Roger Moore aged from 47 to 58 while Bond but Connery was 31-42, and then 53. So...maybe Elba has a chance (please, I don't ask for much...). AFAIK, the canon details are actually uber-canon, excepting < the part where M dies. His mother was Swiss, and his parents died in an avalanche, and I think there was something else about how their bodies might not have been recovered, although that I"m not sure. He was definitely Scottish (alluded to in On His Majesty's Secret Service) through his father, and I think he was an only child.> But how they filled that in with the estate keeper could be fanfic for all I know. I didn't notice the makeup, but I might look for it now.

Ian Fleming set up a backstory for Bond in his novels including his upbringing and his parents. There was also reference to his parents and his life in the film On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I think it might have been mentioned in another movie as well, but I know it exists for sure in OHMSS. ETA: Chonies beat me to it.
