There was a photocall today for the next Bond film, now entitled Spectre and coming out next year: The cast includes Christoph Waltz, Monica Belluci, Andrew Scott, Dave Bautista and Léa Seydoux.

Christoph Waltz? I'm in the theatre. Also, this interview has been making the rounds: Daniel Craig says Austin Powers f*cked the Bond franchise. I think it's interesting, but I personally thought the shtick had gotten really tired. I loved Skyfall, and I don't care. I was always really into the back story (and the fantheory that Bond 007 is a code for a line of disposable beefcakes), and any nod in that direction, I think, I will appreciate for the effort.

Hey, they have a Bond girl who's older than Bond! That's a switch.

Ah good, I was hoping that was Monica Belluci in the picture that I saw. I think she's just so pretty. And more Daniel Craig. Yummy!

I actually really love the Daniel Craig Bond movies, he's my 2nd favorite Bond behind Sean Connery. But yeah, the schtick had grown tired. I remember going to see a Pierce Brosnan Bond movie in the theater, and between Madonna as a fencing instructor and invisible cars, it was over the top and ridiculous. I think the bad guy had a satellite or something, and an ice palace?
Skyfall had it's over the top moments (the bad guy's entire "I was planning to be captured" plot) but it still had both feet on the ground in a lot of ways and the political backstory of M made it seem realistic.

I agree--a lot of the Brosnan-era Bonds felt tired and full of previously-discarded ideas. Skyfall was wonderful in so many ways, including the use of Adele for the theme, which reminded me (and countless others, no doubt) of the Shirley Bassey era. Yes, I know she's a pop artist, but she's not a pop artist in the same way that Madonna, A-ha or Duran Duran are.

Brosnan was my least favorite Bond, though I did have the initial knee jerk reation and liked him in GoldenEye. But Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist? No way.

I remember hoping for Hugh Jackman to take over when Brosnan left, but Daniel Craig has been a wonderful surprise. He brings back the undercurrent of danger that Connery had. Brosnan was more like Moore - like they focused on pretty and smooth. Neither of them really seemed threatening.
