I am looking forward to this one coming out tomorrow. I will be looking forward to having Wes Anderson explain what the Hell he had in mind in some of the scenes. Like that leopard shark , what the fuck? I saw this twice. The first time I saw it I hated the movie and felt ripped off. But after taking New Years day evening with a few unsuspecting friends the movie kind of grew on me. I tended to treat it like a wild and uncontrollable ride. One that is not always fun, but definitely interesting. I thought that it could be a bit flat, but some parts, like when they ransacked the competition's supplies and the exciting hi-jacking/rescue mission, it made up for some of the drab bits.

Hi ! HUGE Jeff Goldblum fan here. Is watching this even worth seeing him in it? I'd sit through the boring parts if Jeff had a few good scenes....otherwise I'll pass.

If you like Goldblum, you should rent this. He is pretty good playing the prissy, arrogant and kind of cruel golden boy who is Zissou's nemesis. He actually has a couple of pretty good scenes.

OK I am now officially upset. The movie looks great on the new Criterion collection, but for the first time I have a criticism of a Director's commentary. For whatever reason, which will remain a mystery to me, Wes Anderson chose to record his director's commentary in the actual bar that he and the head writer frequented when they wrote the movie. What is wrong with that you may ask? Well the bar is still open during their commentary and the track is full of background noise from the bar and this makes the commentary all but unlistenable !!! Great decision guys. Unbelievable.

This movie rocked! It is amazing how Wes Anderson's movies are all so completely different yet have his "stamp" on them. You know it's a WA movie right from the start.

I'm so angry because I saw part of this one day in class when we had nothing to do, so a classmate brought it in and we watched it - and never finished it. I've only seen the first 30 minutes. I want to finish the movie, but I can't find it at any of the rental places.

I've never seen any of Wes Anderson's movies, so I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw this. I absolutely loved it! There wasn't a bad performance in the movie and I thought Willem Dafoe was scene stealing as Klaus.

That's just weird with the commentary track. I own Royal Tenenbaums on DVD but didn't like this one enough to consider buying it.

I actually enjoyed this movie a lot, which is sort of surprising since I usually need to see Wes Anderson flicks several times before I start to really like them. But with 'Life...' it just sort of instantly clicked. Though I think there were some consistency problems with pacing and tone, and I despised the Tim Burton-esque animation sequences or whatever those are called. To me they totally didn't fit with the rest of the movie. I thought that a lot of the big actors in smaller parts rocked (Angelica Houston, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, etc).

We finished this last night and I like it, but it's not my favorite Wes Anderson. This and The Royal Tennenbaums were both a little flat, but I liked Tennenbaums much more than Zissou.
His movies sort of meander around, but this flat out wandered. Hard to find the plot, the characters were more caricatures than people and what in the hell was Cate Blanchett's accent? Even so I loved the line, "She's a rich bitch. Raised by maids." Ha!
