I watched the KK movie- finally- and couldn't even get through it. It didn't help that before starting I watched a few of the little extras on the DVD, heard a lot about how the Bennets are this wonderfully strong family and they totally love each other and especially how Mrs. Bennet would do anything for her daughters, and knew it was going to suck. You can't improve on Austen. This should be pounded into filmmakers' heads with a mallet.
Maybe I'll give it a try again later, but it just made me so angry . . .

Nothing can diminish my love for the miniseries but when I can't indulge the entire six hours (for you can't stop with one episode), the movie does satisfy. I don't like the final scene. Keira seems so out of place in that grand home and the dialogue is way too schmoopy.

Wait, what? The final scene I saw was Mr Bennet saying he was quite at his leisure to receive other young men to ask for his daughters' hands in marriage...
*goes to check DVD*
Okay, so, apparently you guys got a different ending. Which is schmoop ahoy. And also more of the whole "running around outside in their nightwear" thing, which really bothers me, because there is no way they would've done that. I love the mini-series, and quite like the movie and Keira in it, but I'm not terribly keen on the fact that movie Lizzie is so unladylike and messy. Lizzie was always a lady, and she would never have run around outside - especially outside her own family's property - in her nightie!

Yeah, the "Mrs. Darcy ... Mrs. Darcy ... Mrs. Darcy" crap was too schmoopy for me. But, he's hot, so ... I'll deal with it. [/shallow]

I was super in the mood for the movie on Friday. I loved the miniseries but MM's Darcy is so hot. Two things that I hadn't put my finger on before:
Erinnyes, I totally agree about the lack of propriety. It was jarring when Mr. Bingley walks into the room where Jane is laying in bed ill (!) and yet we are supposed to go along with the idea that Mr. Collins introducing himself to Darcy is terribly rude. Did Darcy walk into Lizzie's bedroom when he delivered his letter to her?
Also everyone in the movie speaks so so quickly. If I wasn't already superfamiliar with most of the dialogue, I would have no idea what they were saying. In some parts, it fit (Darcy's first proposal) but in other parts is was just dizzying.

Oh yeah, MM's Darcy was what made the movie for me...drippy ending and all (which I liked...although one or two less "Mrs. Darcy's" would have improved it).
I didn't read the book till after I saw the movie and was surprised by how much of the dialogue came straight from the book.
Yes, some things in the movie weren't true to the times, like Bingley's coming into Jane's bedroom, Darcy giving Elizabeth a letter at the Collins' home when she was in her nightgown and robe, but I still think the movie captured the spirit of Darcy's and Elizabeth's relationship, if only because the actors (imo) had such great chemistry.
