The trailer looked corny, but Ang Lee does have a gift for romance-and-lies stories; I really liked The Wedding Banquet, and am slightly embarrassed to admit I got all choked up at the end of CTHD. Funny, because if I had to make up trailers for those two movies, they'd probably look sappy as well, even though there's usually a strong bittersweet undercurrent.
So, with Ang Lee seemingly back on comfortable ground, I am cautiously optimistic.

The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and the critics loved it. Great reviews in the NYTimes, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Guardian.I love the short story by Annie Proulx, it's heartbreaking. I have high hopes for this movie. From IMDB boards:and God ... this is just sad.

Ah, ignorance.
It seems that the last few months were well spent in the editing room - the movie seems to be getting better buzz since the spring. I still have a residual crush on Heath from his Roar/10 Things I hate About You days, so I kinda want to see this just to see him make out with Jake.

See, I want this film to do well if only because if it doesn't studio execs are going to blame the gay factor. And the premise at least to me sounds interesting-- so I hope the movie doesn't play like a Hallmark movie.

Anybody know if the original New Yorker short story can be found anywhere online? I know you can buy on Amazon, but if it's elsewhere for free.......

I teared up during the trailer. Yes, I am a loser.

Ruthless Reviews, which rarely likes any movies, was floored by this film. Interesting stuff on the Telluride festival, but scroll down to the last review to see their review of Brokeback: Kudos.

Hoo-wee! I can't wait for this movie... although rumors say all the hot guy on guy action was cut out. We'll see. I'm sure it'll still be a good story but I'll definitely be disappointed.

See, I want this film to do well if only because if it doesn't studio execs are going to blame the gay factor. That's a good point. TPTB are always trying to place blame for box office disappointments in stupid places. I think BBM will be at least a moderate success because of the gay factor, though. There aren't many well thought out gay themed movies out there, and the vast majority of those are indie - if movies like Trick or Beautiful Thing can get a cult following, I'm sure a more noticable flick like this should do okay. There's an automatic audience out there, what between homosexuals, fans of the authour, fans of Heath and Jake, and those who'll see anything that thinks outside of the box. I'm not predicting a smashing success, though - reviews have been mixed and many more people aren't going to see this because of the gay factor.
