The original version was quite scary/creepy, I'm not sure I'd go to see this version in the cinema.
I think the original had a long set up with only a short conclusion/pay-off.
As for the new version? Sorry, I got nothing.

I saw it. I'm very "meh" about it. Visually it was a really beautiful movie. It was directed by Walter Salles, who also did Motorcycle Diaries and Central Station. The movie was good in that from the start it created this really creepy feel. The problem was there was this very long set-up and very little pay off. It also didn't tie the story together very well. On the one hand, I'd say it's not worth paying to see in the theatre b/c the movie just isn't that great. On the other hand, it's not really a dvd-rental movie, either b/c the major positive to the movie is how nicely it's shot which is something that's better captured on the big screen. Thanks for the review. I wasn't sure about seeing this. The trailer didn't pull me in though visually it looked cool. I think I'll take your advice and wait for DVD.

I totally agree with you Moldy. I thought thefather lighting the kids' cigarettes would go somewhere, and Tim Roth's character was interesting. Sad we didn't find out why he was lying about his family. Afterwards, I just kinda felt a bit sad, not creeped out at all.

Oh! That's the best way to put it. I was disappointed myself. Here it was supposed to be this super freaky movie, and it was rather boring...... Who knew it rained that much in NYC?

I've seen the original. It's very boring and slooow in the way Japanese horror movies tend to be (that said, I'm itching to see Tale Of Two Sisters and fucking loved the original Ring films when I first saw them on TV and had no prep or clue what they were).
