Madea's Family Reunion

...funny movie! It had some serious points, but overall, it was entertaining.

I want to see it myself. After seeing Diary of a Mad Black Woman, I've been wanting to see more of Tyler Perry, melodrama and all. I like how in the trailer, Madea called out people who brought babies to the theater. Now if only she was a movie usher in real life. . .

I thought Madea was a saintly, I-must-bear-all-burdens type of grandmother like the one in Soul Food, but after hearing how tart-tongued she is, I now want to see this movie. I'll pass on DofMBW.

Really? People want to see this? It looks like another Big Momma's House to me, but ok... I have no idea who Tyler Perry is, though.

I guess so. From the previews I've seen...the Madea character annoys the crap out of me. And that's just previews.

I'm not too familiar with Tyler Perry, either. Is Madea to Tyler Perry what Geraldine was to Flip Wilson?

Tyler Perry is a playwright/performer who apparently became a multi-millionaire from his plays, even though I'd never heard of him until recently.

I only found out about him because I stumbled across an article in which he was showing a reporter around his new $5,000,000 mansion, explaining that he bought it to symbolize what can happen to you when you believe in God(!) I take it he's part of the recent Christian movement that emphasizes God's ability to shower riches on the faithful.

Well, there was, and still is, Rev. Ike. I just googled him and was surprised to read that he and his megachurch are still around. I wonder if he still has a different Rolls-Royce for each day of the week.

I give him a bit of a pass on that because he was homeless at one point (he initally went broke when his first play flopped) and he's obviously come a long way. The way he's talking, though, it just sounds like he bought a mansion in the name of Jesus and not because he wanted a big house.

Lynn Whitfield will be 53 this year. Amazing.

At the end, those *people dressed up like angels creeped me out. How long did they stay hanging from the ceiling?* That would have been a big distraction for me.

I don't begrudge him that at all, but normally people credit the "American way of life" or "believing in yourself," ideas that sit a little better with the dream of getting wealthy.
