So, my husband wanted to see Meg Ryan's boobs so we got this one from Netflix. Lord. This was one screwed up movie with some scenes that were so disgusting that I had to forward through them. I think I might have to admit that I don't "get" Jane Campion.
Anyone else see this train wreck?

I saw it, Georgianna, and really didn't like this film either. I also I agree with you about Jane Campion. I hated 'The Piano'. Couldn't get through 'Portrait of a Lady.'
Not rushing out to see anything else by her in the near future.

I didn't like the movie (wtf was up with the ending?) but I thought that Mark Ruffalo was so super, sexxxy and sleazy and fabulous. Oh man. I can't regret watching the movie because his performance was so compelling (and hot!). If I ever doubt his abilities, I can just remember what he was able to do with his part in In the Cut. The dude is amazing.

I sat through this movie with a big ol' WTF? look on my face.
It was nothing more than a vehicle to see Meg Ryan's boobs.
Bad, bad, bad movie.........

I saw this movie a while ago and felt like taking a shower afterwards. It was just so sleazy. Especially Mark Ruffalo. I know he was supposed to be a greazy cop, but he played that part a little too good in my opinion. And Meg Ryan needs to stick to romcoms because dark/gritty dramas are not her thing.

heyalice, that's wonderful! I laughed my ass off at Meg's subway poetry musings. This movie was such a waste of time.

... I didn't mind it. It was silly fluff of a broody, middlebrow-art film kind, but I spend my money watching worse that year. The music and art direction was top notch, and I thought the acting was great, including Meg. I had a similar reaction to the equally flawed Birth (which is taken far more seriously and has quite the cult-movie fanbase) because I think both films would have worked far better as black comedies.
