I can't. I've seen less ham in the grocery store deli section. I thought he was laughable.

Right? WTF was that all about? He sounded like Dame Edna with Down's Syndrome and a bad Boston accent.

I wanted so bad to like this movie. People I respected said they loved it. I read some really good reviews of it. So I was incredibly disappointed when it turned out to be so...lousy. I get that what we find out about Viggo's character isn't supposed to be that big of a shock; that the story is more about how far people go to get rid of their pasts. I get that his wife lies to herself through most of the movie because she doesn't want to believe what Ed Harris is telling her and she hates herself when it turns out to be true.
I just didn't think any of that was explained in a very compelling manner.
Oh, and it's not fun to watch this movie in front of one's mother-in-law. Trust me.

I rented this movie and watched it with my sister. WE HATED IT..to the ninth degree!!
I think the main reason was because it was advertised as being one thing and turned out to be another.
It was like we knew what was going to happen before it actually did, you know? I went on the IMDB board and the people there said it was all about hidden meanings. Whatever!
I have nothing against art house movies but it wasn't marketed like that. .. it still pisses me off that Hollywood does this kind of thing just to make more money. I want my money back! Hey, I am poor and every cent counts!!! ;D

Ok, but can anyone explain why William Hurt was considered so ground breaking that he received award nominations? Him wandering around calling people Bro-heem didn't do much for me. One of the most undeserved Oscar noms in recent history. Heck, the kid who played Viggo's son was better!

I completely agree with that. I sort of enjoyed this film and I thought Viggo was great in it. But all the shootouts, and especially the last one, seemed more suited for a Schwarznegger film.

Hurt's nomination.....A JOKE!

Watched this tonight and yeah, I totally don't get the raves for this movie. It was as if it was several different movies patched together: American Beauty plus Pulp Fiction plus, weirdly for me, Lord of the Rings because I couldn't stop thinking about Aragorn when I saw Viggo. My bad. Anyways...
I get what Maria Bello was saying about how she was fucking Joey the gangster and not her husband and how that confused her, but I think she's not a good enough actress to pull this off, as I was mostly just thinking You slut, what the fuck's wrong with you, pick up the kids and get the hell out! Likewise with Viggo: the only scenes where he was convincing, to me, were the killing scenes. The rest of the movie where he was trying to be Good Tom Stall were just bizarrely wrong.

Mr. Sunnyhorse and I were flipping around and landed on this movie just as Viggo and Maria are fighting their way to the stairs for the sex scene, and we spent the next five minutes watching and involuntarily going, "Ow." "Ow." "Ouch." "That's gotta hurt."
