Has anyone seen it? It's been getting good reviews. Actually, it's been getting great reviews which is nice to hear. I enjoyed the book but have not had a chance to see the movie yet.
From those who saw it, is it good?

I saw it and really enjoyed it. I liked the book and this was a relatively faithful adaptation. Toni Collete is her usual fabulous self. Cameron Diaz is not annoying, which is probably the highest praise I can give her. On a completely superficial note, her skin is looking pretty bad. I had heard tales about how terrible her acne is, but it had always been successfully covered up with make up in her films. Some acne scars are pretty visable on her cheeks. What really surprised me was how good Shirley McClaine is. She looks great and has aged gracefully, unlike, say, her brother.
For those of you who haven't read the book, this movie, while having some romantic subplots, is at its core about familial relationships, particularly those amongst sisters. Which is somewhat refreshing to see. In other words, this isn't your typical romcom. It is much better than that. I saw it with my sister and we both loved it.

I saw this movie over the weekend with my parents, and all three of us LOVED it. I have not read the book, but I'm considering reading it now, because I get the feeling that there's a lot more to it than even the movie could cover. Is that the case? I want to read all of Jennifer Weinner's other books now too. I LOVED the story and adored the characters. I thought Cameron Diaz was definitely the weak spot of the acting, but she was not nearly as weak as she's been in the past. This is one of those movies that I"d like to go back and see again, because I get the feeling that I"d get more out of it seeing it again.

Like I said, I haven't seen the movie but a friend who's read the book and seen the movie said that they edited up Cameran's story a bit. She has a whole other adventure before she goes to Florida but from what I understand, they kept the spirit of that but kept it in Florida.
I like Jennifer Weiner's books. They're chick-lit but better than a lot of other ones. I enjoyed this one probably the best (although I haven't read her most recent). I think it's because I could identify a bit more with the emotions (I have a sister).

I actually want to see this despite the fact that Cameron Diaz is in it. Toni Collette more than makes up for that. She's always great and I'm glad she's getting the attention she deserves.
I heard that in the book, Toni's character is definetly the main character, but they're marketing it as a Diaz picture for commerical reasons. They didn't even include Toni on the poster, which made me pissed me off.
ETA: For those who have seen it do you think Toni has a chance at an Oscar nom?

ETA: For those who have seen it do you think Toni has a chance at an Oscar nom? It all depends on the other movies that are out, but I tend to doubt it. I thought she was GREAT, but I don't think it was quite the kind of role that says Oscar. If it had been a supporting role, I think she'd definitely get a supporting nod. But it's definitely a lead role. Now Shirley Mclain has every reason in the world to start hoping for a supporting nom.

I've only read one review and it was negative. I've been debating whether or not to see it because I like Jennifer Weiner's books and I don't really think I want to see them turned into standard Hollywood fare. I didn't really picture Toni Collette in that role.

That's why I thought maybe she could have a small chance at a nomination.

I haven't seen it, but I doubt Toni will get a nod, even if she deserves one. The Oscars generally don't pay attention to chick flicks, or anything at all that doesn't involve the characters dying of terrible diseases or whatnot.

This doesn't seem like Oscar bait for Toni, but wasn't she nominated for The Sixth Sense? That movie didn't seem like Oscar bait either.
But I agree - it will depend on what the competition is like. If there ain't much to chose from, I could see her getting one.
