Renee got a nom for BJD, which I think is the most comprable movie to this one made in a while.
I really liked this movie a lot, but it ran a bit long. 10-15 minutes could have been chopped easily.

Me either. I loved the book, but I don't really see TC and CD as the sisters. I figured Rose to be more plump and beautiful, so if I were the casting director, I'd have gone for Nia Vardalos and Julianne Nicholson. I can only imagine these two characters whenever I read the book.

Toni had to gain weight for the role.

I really enjoyed this film. There were just lots of lovely moments which stayed in my head.
I haven't read the book so I didn't have any preconceptions about the characters and I loved Toni Collette as Rose. I had heard she was supposed to be big and then loose a little weight as her character grew (movie cliche to me), but I didn't notice. Probably because I don't consider her to be overweight or unattractive in the first place. And Cameron Diaz actually really moved me at times. Particularly in this one scene where <<you see her confident bubbly exterior slowly disintegrate during a disasterous MTV audition>>. I agree that Shirley Maclaine was wonderful and a beautiful anchor for the film. Oh and that guy who played Toni Collette's main man? totally hot. wish I could remember his name.

I saw Jennifer Wiener do a reading - it was actually more like a comedy routine, it was so entertaining - a few months ago and she was so funny and cool I'm glad that the movie is doing well. Planning to see it this weekend.

Toni Collette's main man was played by Mark Feuerstein. I saw him in a play once and he's just as hot in person, and really nice too.

I think that in many of the roles Mark Feurerstein has done, he becomes better looking based on his charismatic sincerity than his looks alone. I never really find him hot, but I always find him attractive enough to pay close attention to.

This movie surprised me. I generally loathe Cameron Diaz, and was happy to see her being fairly unsympathetic through most of the film, but then, she got me. I was sucked in by the entire story and actually teared up at the end. Damn you Curtis Hanson. Good flick, just don't expect much going in and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I saw it today, and I loved it. I didn't want it to end, even though at 130 minutes, it was longer than most movies of its kind. Oh, and Mark Feuerstein? Rwowr. I love a man with a hairy chest, and I don't see enough of them in the movies - so many of them wax these days. The only quibble I had was that << I was convinced that Maggie was going to be run over by that car right at the end.>>
