I'm glad a couple of others sort of liked it. I wouldn't want anyone to think I have bad taste in movies. (ahem)Still limping along, this figure includes thurs night. $15,310,938Whoever can't get into Harry Potter or Walk the Line tonight may go see it, the spillover effect. I saw Chicken Little last night (act of total desperation)--cute but stupid, dosed off twice. Got to hand it to Disney for selling all those tickets. None of the kids were laughing, I laughed more.

I doubt that it will make 20M. Nobody in my office(and they like Jen)wants to go see it because the reviews are so bad.

I'll admit it, I saw it. I thought it was one of de-most boring movies I've seen in a long time. Although Clive Owen really looks great on film. Sexy, sexy, sexy.

As far as Clive's character goes, at least one of the reviews called him a shlub (sp?). He was a white collar worker with priorities on family. They tend to be quite civil and sedate. Toward the end of the film the character got into street hoodlum mode. He was no way, no how, a shlub.

It's just too bad that by that time moviegoers have lost interest in the film. It is one of the very few films that I walked out on.
And you might be right that it could get the spill over audience from Harry Potter. There were long lines for the movie last night and sold out notices all around. A lot of people had to settle for the other movies instead of waiting for HP.

Only half of the box office gross goes to the studio; the rest goes to the theatres. Also the budget doesnt include the cost of promotion which is another $20-25 million.

Silly me.
Actually I read that they didn't do much promotion until they hit the TV shows. It was that and the bad reviews that held it back. Anyway, they're not done yet in the theater run and then DVD sales. I don't think we can call it a bomb yet.

I wouldn't call it a bomb, but the word lackluster comes to mind. And I think we can also rule out Oscar prestige, which would compensate for the meager box office.

I think it helps that it doesn't have a lot of competition in terms of the genre of movie that it is. It came out at a good time of year when grown ups want to go to a movie because there's nothing to do and the weather is bad. If you don't like bio-pics or childrens movies, it's probably the most desirable option out there.
