What I don't get is why they couldn't get real Israeli actors for this movie. I mean, who cares about Eric Bana? There are so many talented, hot Israeli actors, like Lior Ashkenazi. Or maybe no Israeli wants to be associated with Mr. Spielberg's personal crusade.
This movie looks like unbridled crap.

I'm not quite sure what to think of this movie.
It doesn't appear that it's going to be about what I thought it was about (pre-trailer, I mean).
I guess I was thinking it was about what happened in Munich, not afterwards.

Sorry, but I doubt he'd be a big box office draw in North America. Isn't this the argument in the Memoirs of a Geisha thread too? Somehow I don't get it. Actors act. They play different ethnicities all the time. Its called acting for a reason.

I think many people (including Israel) are upset it's not enough of a crusade in either direction.

This movie is based on Vengeance by George Joneas which has been largely discredited, as I've said before. This is what Marvin Levy, a Spielberg spokesman says regarding the book:
"It was really the only source material besides the news accounts. (Ed. note - because apparently it's too much effort to go over to Israel and ask those involved what happened) If there were other books, we'd have used those too. We never set out to make a documentary. There was literary and dramatic license. (Ed. Note - So apparently they are lying, that's "dramatic license" yes?).. There were a lot of things in Vengeance that aren't in our movie."
This almost makes me think that seeing this movie is one massive mistake for me anyway. Everyone has to make their own choices about any movie they see and this quote makes me think this movie will never be for me.
ETA - I just found this quote today and it completely disgusts me. I have seen several articles for and against this movie, but this quote tipped the scale for me.

I highly doubt that Eric Bana is a big office draw anywhere.
I hate Spielberg. Anyone who is married to Kate Capshaw can't be too intelligent.

I just want to thank you all for the discussion in here on this movie. I was going to see it but I think I'll seek out the documentary ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER instead.

heyalice, that's a pretty good idea. "One Day in September" is a much better film anyway, probably because it's a documentary.
I was really into seeing this movie when I first heard about it. It's such a tragic event and the targeted (and not so targeted) assassination plot by Mossad, the IDF, and the Commando units would have really been interesting to see dramatized. But clearly I've changed my mind, with a little more research and such. Perhaps I'll check it out later, much later. Or I'll forget about it and watch Ehud Barak try to explain the dress thing again on some documentary. Whatever.

Did anyone here read that tidbit about a director(I'm not sure if it was on Page Six)chuckling gleefully at a party where he was telling people that nobody is interested in Spielberg's movie? It will be interesting how the movie will fare.
Not planning to see it myself.
