This, to me, is the most anticipated film of the year. Spielberg's latest and Tony Kushner's movie scriptwriting debut (playwright, "Angels in America") about Operation Wrath of God. Trailer here.

I'm not going to see it. I still have nightmares from seeing that lone newspaper photo at the time of.

I want to see it--I don't know when it will make it to S. Africa. I have a dial-up connection so I can't watch the trailer. How much is the Olympics and how much is Wrath of God?
heavenwithagun, what image are you talking about?

heavenwithagun, what image are you talking about? It must be this one although I remembered it differently, with several masked people. This image was in the newspapers and on TV while the episode was unfolding. Chilling, to say the least.

I'm torn about this one. I was totally for it, until I saw an ad for it. Now it looks not wrathy enough. I mean, when Ehud Barak talks about the operation, he talks about it with a shrug. These terrorists killed our people, you better believe we were going after them, regardless of collateral damage. The movie makes it look like the Mossad and such were actually not all that willing to do it but Golda Mier talked them into it. It's just so pussy and kid glove handled on the coming atractions ad that it annoys me. Then I heard that Steven Spielberg had someone talk to the "mastermind" of the massacre to make sure they had both aspects of the story "right". Right, because he talked to inveterate Nazis during the filming of "Schindler's List" to make sure not to offend the Nazi ideal either. Shut up, Spielberg. If they were going to talk to the mastermind of the massacre, they would have just had to talk to this guy, he died last year, his name was Yasser Arafat. To me, it sounds like this movie is going to drown in its own political correctness. Prove me wrong, Spielberg, prove me wrong. So no, I don't think I'll be running to this one.

It will be interesting to see what this will turn out to be like. There's certainly the potential for a lot of controversy, especially since Spielberg hired Tony Kushner of all people to rewrite the screenplay.

(Boo F*cking Hoo).

By all accounts, it looks like it will be more focused on Wrath of God (the tagline of the film: "In 1972, 11 Israeli atheletes were murdered at the Munich Olympics. This is the story of what happened next.") It's based on the book "Vengeance," which was largely told to George Jonas by the leader of the hit squad, "Avner" (he remains anonymous). That's who Eric Bana is playing, and it looks like Daniel Craig is playing Mike Harari? Haven't seen a cast list.
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend "One Day in September," the Oscar-winning documentary about the attack. While the German government comes acrosss as massively incompetent, you will never be able to stomach another Olympic Games, because the IOC comes across as some of the most bottom-feeding scum-sucking bureaucrats in the history of the world. Literally while the hostage stand-off was going on in the Olympic Village, including tanks swarming the streets, the IOC insisted the Games continued less than a mile away in the stadium. The entire village wasn't even evacuated, and you can even seen film footage of athletes sunning themselves on the other side of the chainlinked fence from the dorms where their co-athletes were currently sitting with guns to their heads. So much for Olympic brotherhood and all that crap.
To be fair, the American athletes who helped Black September sneak into the compound (they thought they were fellow athletes) seemed really remorseful. They were sneaking back into the village themselves and were probably wasted.
