I got the sense they were going for a vaguely old-school, noir-detective vibe with his character--the clothes and the vampy "dame" waiting for him at home.

I saw it last in an almost full theatre. I really enjoyed it. I liked the opening music from the Bollywood movie Dil Se. The guy sitting next to me was really rocking out. I liked the whole look of the movie and I thought the casting was great. Some of the interrogation scenes were hilarious especially the one where Denzel & Chiwetel were trying not to stare at the female hostage's voluptuous bosom.

The last song when the credits rolled was awsome.
I thought they could have done without the Jodie character because first, they didn't explain really well what she did and second it was irrelevant because with all her skills that she was supposed to have she accomplished nothing. But it's nice to see Jodie rocking a suit and looking smoking hot so I'm not complaining.
The plot had a lot of holes and was hard to believe how they managed to not catch anybody since they had everybody on camera before the robbers went in the bank, so it shouldn't be hard to identify the additional ones. How did Clive's character know about Case's secret because I doubt that even someone from within would have known about it. Oh and scaring people off and beating some of them up gets a last hurray as long as the bad guy was punished, the really really bad guy. Because the end justify the means and everybody is happy.Sort of.
But with all this, I enjoyed it a lot. Denzel has great comedic timing and the direction was stylish and fast-paced. It was highly entertaining but I wouldn't call it a great movie.

plush, I thought of that, but *there would be no way to disprove that anyone already inside the bank wasn't in on the robbery, even if he/she wasn't weilding a (fake) gun. The background checks on everyone picked up didn't reveal anything incriminating. You would think the police might have found the gloves the robbers were wearing and tested them.*

Yeah but couldn't they identify the people before the robbers went in the bank because they had footage of that. Once you do that and you're interviewing everybody in the end, you compare all the screen shots and can easily see who was added to the lot. There was no way for them to identify the guy with hearing aid as an accomplice (by the way that was Inside Man right?), but the two guys and the girl with big boobs couldn't have blended in that easily and not be found and that had nothing to do with background check. And the same cop was able to find out that Case made his money selling himself to the Nazis with no help from Jodie or Clive's characters but overlooked much simpler evidence. Riiight!
"Did I violate rule 36DD"? hahaha, that was funny.

There's also the thing where: The girl robber was wearing a shirt underneath her painters suit, they should have easily nabbed her because if she was really just a hostage she would've only had underwear on. Seriously, I picked up on that and I never notice these things.

There is a store near us that rents Bollywood movies, so I will check it out.

I have to agree with everyone who said that Jodie Foster looked fabulous and played a great manipulative bitch. Reminds me of how much I miss her when she's not acting. I liked the idea of her character but I don't think she was utilised that well in the plot. You could have almost left her out and the film would still have the same outcome.

Saw it last night. Really liked it. I loved how you really couldn't predict what was going to come out of any character's mouth. There were some terrific lines in this movie.
Jodie Foster looks WOW. Has she had any work done? A special fitness routine? She's had two kids, right? And she doesn't seem to have aged at all in the last ten years. And those SHOES!!! Hot dang, I want those shoes.
I actually liked that the film didn't explain every last plot point and character and their motivations. After 43 seasons of "Law & Order", I don't need everything summed up for me.
My biggest quibble was that the bank CEO (Christopher Plummer) would have to be at least 85-90 years old for the WWII plot detail to make sense. Plummer is only 77 and looks 67. They needed a real geezer in the role (like Melvyn Douglas in "Being There").
And it was so great to see Darryl "Chill" Mitchell in the role of the tech-guy cop. I mentioned to my date that it was good to see a disabled actor be in a movie where the wheelchair isn't even mentioned. Date replied "He was in a wheelchair? Yeah, I guess he was."
