There's been lots of talk about Felicity Huffman's performance, but what did you think of the film?
I saw it last night and thought it was marvellous. It was funny, which was a pleasant surprise. The supporting actors were all wonderful. Burt Young!! I didn't even know he was in it, but he was great. Kevin Zegars (?sp) should also be seeing bigger and better roles after this. What a brave performance.
I've seen all the best actress nominees now and Felicity should win hands down. She was a revelation. The others honestly don't compare.
eta: because its Huffman, not Hoffman. D'oh

I saw it last night and I couldn't agree more. Besides the fact that Felicity Huffman's performance was exceptional, the movie itself was far more entertaining than I had anticipated.
Well acted across the board, funny, lively, never dull. It was moving and thoroughly enjoyable. I really enjoyed it; far more, in fact, than I did any of the best picture nominees.

I'm glad to hear the good reviews. My friend and I are skipping out of work early this afternoon to catch a matinee of it. Update: I really liked it -- it was a lot of fun, it was touching, it was all good things. Go see it if you haven't! Besides, the Toby character is so hot. I felt a little pervy since he plays a 17-year-old, but he's a "worldly" 17 year-old, so that's how I justify it. Here's his imdb page. Sweet Jesus he was born in 1984! Well, at least that makes him legal.

Holy moly--just read his IMDB biography, which says he lives with his actress girlfriend...born in 1974!!! I was born in 1974! (Sorry, this excited me and made me feel good about myself all at the same time!) On topic, I saw this movie yesterday, and thought it was just wonderful, especially considering that I had heard over and over again that while Felicity Huffman turns in an astonishing performance, the movie is just so-so. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end; thought it was funny and thoughtful, and the main characters were extremely well-developed! Oh, and did I mention that kid is DAMN FINE???

Rented this last night and Wow! Loved it. Really, really loved it. Felicity Huffman was simply amazing. The film itself was funny, sweet, tender and touching. I loved the interaction between Toby & Bree, as well as how their relationship evolved.
And that boy? HOTTTTTTTTT!!!! My God, it was almost distracting at times.
Did anyone think Fionnula Flanagan who plays the mother looks a lot like a heavier Debbie Reynolds?

Finally saw it on DVD. Felicity was robbed of an Oscar.
Everyone in that movie was great. Even more surprising was seeing William H. Macy's name as Executive Producer.
Was Kevin Zegers the little kid from Air Bud?

Ha! I checked and he was in all the Air Bud movies. Damn he is hot now.
I think Felicity was robbed as well. Dolly Parton was so robbed. "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" was the worst song of all the nominees.

"It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" was the worst song of all the nominees. I'm not sure Dolly Parton was "robbed," although I do think The Pimp Song was the worst of the group. But Felicity? Definitely, definitely robbed. An unbelievable performance.

Felicity was robbed badly. I loved Walk the Line as well, but Felicity was miles beyond Reese. She was perfect in such a complicated and heart-breaking role. But she's not a young babe so she lost. It sucks.
And I was pleasantly surprised to see Graham Greene in this, that was a great role.

It was a nice movie, really enjoyed it. It was nice how she accepted her son just as she promised.
