I admit to having a soft spot for the parents. The mother was hilarious, Bree Van der Kamp lite - horrified by her son/daughter, total refusal to accept that her son was transgender because that would be against "what was expected", hurtful in her insensitive comments, and yet, never once rejected her children.

This movie was just wonderful. Felicity definitely deserved the Oscar. If you haven't, watch the extras. It was interesting what Felicity had to do to lower her voice.

Did anyone think Fionnula Flanagan who plays the mother looks a lot like a heavier Debbie Reynolds? Aha! That's who she kept reminding me of! I couldn't figure it out.

Eh - got it from netflix and don't see what all the fuss is about. Not a bad movie but not a good one either.

I just watched this today and yeah, Felicity gave an amazing performance. Her and Reese both did a terrific job but I think they should've given it to Felicity. She'll have more chances as where Reese, while good, might not.

I watched this last night and really liked it. Given the subject matter, I guess I was expecting more of a "pretentious indie" (cough)Gus Van Zant(cough), but it remained somewhat light in tone with the humor and the characters felt real. I appreciated the fact that it didn't end with a "happily ever after", the son still went on to his gay porn career, and Bree was still working in the same restaurant, but they did get to form a relationship. It was interesting to see how alike Bree and her mother were, both sort of stiff and proper and in denial about reality- the mom about Stanley/Bree's sex change, and Bree about telling her son who she really is. My only issue was isn't Bree's surgery hugely expensive? Granted, she had two jobs but both were relatively low-paying, she must have been saving up for years.

I saw this on Pay Per View the other night, and holy gawd, what a great movie! I loved Walk the Line, and I adore Reese Witherspoon, so as much as it pains me to say this, Felicity Huffman really was robbed. That was by far a tougher, deeper and much harder performance.
