I don't really have any desire to see it, but I hope it does well at the box office. It's seems like a quality film and it seems like whenever Hollwyood decides to make a "black film" it's usually some crap like Big Momma's House or any other movie with a man getting dressed up as an old woman. If this does well, maybe they'll be willing to make more quality films. Plus Angela Bassett deserves more work.

If it doesn't manage to get phenominal word of mouth, and get it soon, Akeelah and the Bee is DOA.
It opened to a paltry 1, 670,000 on Friday for an average of only $761 per screen.
How disappointing.

I cried. I'm so ashamed. But this movie was great. Clean enough for kids to go see, and interesting enough for adults not to get bored.

Saw it yesterday. It should be required viewing at every school.
I thought it was terrific.
