This movie is now on DVD.
I really enjoyed it in the theater, Emma Thompson was terrific in the lead, Colin Firth is the dad, the kids are a hoot! Celia Imrie as the future stepmother, Imelda Staunton as the cook. Very cute and funny.
Great family movie, not just mindless junk for the little ones.

Is this the kind of movie kids around the age of 12 would like or is it more for the younger crowd?
My kids get offended by anything I do or say that implies they're little kids and didn't want to see this in the theater, but I wouldn't want to miss out on a good movie.

I think kids 12 years old would love this movie. Lots of bugs, animals, contraptions, sight gags, and the Nanny is truly horrific looking. But the kids start out just as terrible as well.
And I like what Nanny McPhee tells them:
"When you need me, but don't want me, I must stay. When you don't need me, but want me to stay, then I must leave."

I loved it! Oh....and my 4 year old nephew liked it too!
I cried at the end, it was so sweet.
I'm going to listen to Nine Inch Nails now until I feel "NORMAL" again.

The books were some of my favourite growing up, so I had high, high hopes for the movie - it didnt disappoint. I took another 30 year old friend, 2 9 year old girls, an 11 year old boy, 6 year old boy and 4 year old girl - and they all thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
Its on my 'To Buy' list. The wedding scene is hilarious, and then the creation of Evangelines wedding dress from snow is truly magical and beautiful. And its so nice to have kids movies that dont rely on adult in jokes etc. Its just a great story. Emma Thompson did a great job.
