I remember reading the book when the original was released. Even better than the film. If you can find an old copy somewhere, I highly recommend it.

I watched it last night. The creepiest part for me was when the projector broke and the film ground to a halt. Everyone in the theater flipped out for about five seconds because of all the 666 tension, but then we got refunds and free tickets, so all ended well. Those five seconds were sheer terror, though. lol.

It set the record for a Tuesday opening, with a box office reported take of, if you can believe this:
$12,633,666.
But don't believe it. A studio exec admitted they were "just having a little fun."
Still not a bad start, and it is getting good reviews. I'm torn: I love horror movies, but I'm a big fan of the original, so I don't know if I want to muck with that.

Ok. I just saw it and hate to admit that I actually liked it.
One thing, though...did anyone else play Spot-the-red-thing in each scene? At first, it was edgy and artsy and I kinda liked it. But after about twenty or thirty minutes into the film, I was annoyed because it was actually distracting.
Oh and one more thing: creeeeeepy kid and extra creeeeeepy Mia. <shudder>

One thing, though...did anyone else play Spot-the-red-thing in each scene? At first, it was edgy and artsy and I kinda liked it. But after about twenty or thirty minutes into the film, I was annoyed because it was actually distracting. The "Spot the Red Thing" reminds me -- I saw Dracula on stage years ago, and the sets were always completely black, gray and white except that in each act there was one spot of red. In the first act, it was a glass of red wine that someone was holding. In the second, I'm not sure but I think it was a single red rose. In the third act I couldn't "spot the red thing" at first -- but then it turned out to be Dracula's blood spurting from his chest when he finally got the stake. Anyhow, I keep hearing that in this new Omen Mia Farrow is really creepy. Mrs. Blaylock in the original was the creepiest thing also. Well, except maybe for the grave yard Hell Hounds. I still remember when a group of us watched the original, when the Priest is trying to alert Thorne about what's going on. The Priest finally yells, " His mother was a -----" and the last word is garbled and drowned out by the security people coming to take him away. I recall all of us yammering frantically, "A what? What did he say??? His mother was a what?"

TamaraDixon, I did read the book when it first came out! Very scary indeed and a really great read. I liked how it went into Katherine's state of mind more. His mother was a what?" SPOILER: A jackal. ( Sorry, I wasn't sure if you're just recalling how you didn't know then, or if you still aren't sure now what his mother was! ;D) And could someone please clarify for me: I don't remember in the movie, because I haven't seen the original in a few years ( and will probably wait to see the remake on DVD), but do they show Thorne and the photographer opening the grave containing the skeleton of the jackal who gave birth to Damian and the skeleton of Thorne's real infant son who was killed at birth? I know it's in the book. But I don't rememeber whether I only think I saw it in the movie because the book was so vivid and well-written.

India7 -- Yes, they showed that scene in the original, and it was another where we all started shrieking. And I'll spoiler this part since the movie is, once again, "new:" He flings up the lid of the little coffin and you can clearly see that it's a human baby's skeleton and you can clearly see his skull is fractured meaning the baby was murdered. In the coffin of Damien's real mother, you can clearly see it's a jackal. Then the Hell Hounds are upon them!
And India7, yeah, we did eventually figure out what that key word was we missed. At the time we didn't realize the audience was meant to not quite hear it and we were having a fit.

Oh and as we watched the film, we started recognizing places around Prague and realized they must have shot some scenes here. Near the end of the film, you can clearly see a sign that's in Czech. Somebody goofed! LOL

I watched it last night. I loved it! Best movie I've watched in a long time. I didn't watch the original and never heard about it before so I was pleasantly surprised when I watched the film. It was very good and very scary. I want to go and see it again. I will definitely get it when it comes out on DVD.
