I hope this isn't true, because it has "bad idea" written all over it: George Lucas may be able to see this working out, but I sure as hell don't. If they want to continue the series with this Mutt character, fine. Just don't relegate friggin' Indiana Jones to "side kick/comic relief" status. He can make a cameo appearance in those films, but he should NOT be a sidekick.

Indiana Jones is no one's sidekick. Lucas has officially lost his damn mind.

I honestly can't see Harrison Ford agreeing to do that...maybe as a cameo but not as a sidekick. It would be fine if they had Indy pop up at the end to unexpectedly save Mutt's ass or something like that...

In a Barbara Walters interview a few years ago Harrison Ford even admitted that he had no interest in playing second fiddle to anyone, he likes being the lead in his movies. Indy as a sidekick will happen when hell freezes over.

George Lucas, please...just...stop.
Aside from George's apparent plans to relegate Indy to sidekick in future films, I'm really looking forward to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Due to various Memorial Day weekend events, I won't be going until Sunday night--I can't bear the wait.
I caught some of Raiders on cable this weekend and am more excited than ever to see Indy and Marion together again. Is it too much to hope that the new movie has a nice little mention of Marcus Brody (RIP, Denholm Elliott)?

Is it too much to hope that the new movie has a nice little mention of Marcus Brody (RIP, Denholm Elliott)? I'm not sure whether to spoiler or not so I'll err on the side of spoiler... Yes, he's mentionedDetailed spoiler... There is a quick mention where Indy sits down at his desk and says "It's been a tough year, first Marcus and then Dad" (or maybe it was first Dad, then Marcus but either way implying that both have died). When he says this there is a closeup shot of two pictures on his desk, one of Brody and one of Jones Sr. During this the grail theme from "Crusade" plays. I thought it was a very nice way to mention them. It's very touching and I almost teared up a little at the closup of Connery's picture (even though he's very much alive).I've been reading the reviews and it sounds like I'm in the minority with my opinion on Karen Allen. That said her appearance into the movie garners one of my favorite all time reactions from Ford. That particular scene is just about perfect.

Agreed that Harrison's ego is far too big to ever agree to being a sidekick. Lucas should know better than that. Looking at his imdb filmography, he hasn't been second billed in anything since Return of the Jedi in 1983.

The Shia-as-IJ lead sounds like rumor mill stuff. Plus, I think SlB has already proven he can open movies fine on his own; with Lucas directing him, I think he'll do fine without the Indiana Jones franchise in the future (though it seriously doesn't hurt).

Some of my coworkers went to a pre-screening this week and said the movie was great! Is anyone going to see the movie today? I may wait until the weekend since the 2-hour finale of Grey's is on tonight. I just read an article in More Magazine about Karen Allen- she really looks great for 56!I thought it was really interesting to read about her perspective about doing the role at a younger and older age. Very inspiring!
