Too much news, but a press release was sent out announcing the official cast made so far. Bilbo and some of the Dwarves. Article #2 Article #3 And if all things go ahead as planned, shooting will finally start February 2011; where remains a question. Please oh please, let them begin filming soon.

I'm kind of disappointed Richard Armitage is a dwarf (look left if you don't know who he is). The guy is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome, and now he's going to be playing short, stout, and bearded.

I was kinda still hoping for James McAvoy to be in this but I'm fine with Martin Freeman, I like him a lot.

Thorin? The Dwarf? Really?!?!" I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I would have loved to see him as a Ranger or something befitting his fine self.

I'm loving all the recent news, minus the stuff about the production possible moving away from New Zealand. Martin Freeman will make an awesome Bilbo I think, even though my first pick was McAvoy. As for the dwarves: John Rhys Davies, aka Gimli, was the tallest guy in LOTR. Or at least one of the tallest. I remember this being discussed in the DVD extras. Apparently, having really tall guys play dwarves and really short guys play hobbits, the size-relationship between them is automatically correct, without any movie-magic. All because hobbits are smaller than dwarves, according to Tolkien. Since most of the scenes in The Hobbit will involve Bilbo + dwarves, I'm guessing they're casting the dwarves as tall as possible to save on CGI and extras.
I'm hoping no one is allergic to the makeup like John Rhys Davies was... he was really suffering during the LOTR-shoot.

I remember that, his eyes were really swollen and I couldn't tell if it was his character trait or what. It seemed like a small thing to be able to change (unlike, say, the Tin Man makeup that landed an actor in the hospital).

The latest news The Hobbit remains in NZ. This might be heresy among some, but I didn't really care that much whether or not it would be filmed in NZ and I love the trilogy. I just want it to be filmed already!
