I never thought it would leave NZ, and glad another filming battle is behind them. Chop, chop, PJ...

Yeah, I'm glad that it has been settled as well. I never thought they would leave NZ but I'm not shocked the studios took full advantage of NZ's fear of losing the films and squeezed out even more tax breaks from the country.
It sounds like while NZ is happy to keep the films the country's citizens are kinda divided on how what the government (yeah the government got involved) did to keep them. The government even changed some laws to reassure the studios there would be no strikes!

I'm kind of disappointed Richard Armitage is a dwarf (look left if you don't know who he is). The guy is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome, and now he's going to be playing short, stout, and bearded. Me too. I was super excited when I found out that both Armitage and Aidan Turner were going to be in the movie. And then I realized that they were both playing dwarfs and...I'm just not seeing it. Both of them are tall, dark, and handsome.

But most people don't know who they are, I for instance haven't the foggiest idea of who you're talking about. And like was said before, if they're tall then the proportions would be right with the hobbits.

EW is reporting Elijah Wood is reprising his role as Frodo. For those unfamiliar with the book Frodo does not appear in The Hobbit. In fact, I'm not even sure Frodo was even born when the events of The Hobbit took place. TheOneRing.net has details of Frodo's role. I was a little less alarmed once I read it. Assuming TOR's info is accurate, and I have every reason to believe it is, Frodo's appearance shouldn't feel forced. Still, I am raising my eyebrow over reports of Orlando Bloom being approached to reprise Legolas. Again, Legolas never appears in the book. The only thing I can think of to explain Legolas's appearance is Legolas is among the wood-elves Bilbo and the gang meets. This could be a way to further link The Hobbit to LOTR. I will throw a hissy fit that would terrify Smaug if the studio screws up convincing Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis coming back! I like Frodo and Legolas is made of awesome but Ian, Hugo, and Andy are actually needed! All three have stated in the past that as long PJ is on board they will happily reprise their LOTR roles. So, I think the studio is somehow holding up negotiations.

I saw that Frodo-returns story too, and was initially worried just like you. However, after reading the specifics I agree: that could definitely work. I am so excited about this movie, yet so scared that it's jinxed somehow after all the trouble they've had getting it off the ground!

I just found out Cate Blanchett is returning as Galadriel although that character also isn't in the novel. I love her and can't wait to see her again.

I thought Galadriel was in the novel. It's been years since I've read it though...

It won't bother me if Legolas is in the movie. He's the Prince of Mirkwood, and they spend some time in Mirkwood. Plus, it's at a time when Bilbo gets separated from some of the dwarves, so the likelihood of some dwarves running into him isn't too far-fetched. Or, Bilbo may see him and we just never know who he is.
