Yep, that's "balls up". One can also make a right "cock-up" of a situation. Also, one can "bollocks/bollix" things up (screw them up). The 'balls up' isn't rhyming slang. Speaking of rhyming slang...I am quite partial to (a) "Barclay's".

I don't know if it's related but it Mexico they call cats "micho." I guess it's analagous to "kitty."

Just found this thread. Cool.
I laugh out loud every time I watch "BtVS", and Giles or Spike say "berk". If the censors knew of rhyming slang....

I love this thread!
I've lived in the Tidewater area of Virginia (from eastern PA) for just over a year now, and it has been a truly educational experience.
My favorite local slang is one that's hard to describe in print, because it's *all* in the pronunciation:
Whuuuut?
Said by the person you are having a conversation with, it means, roughly, "I am surprised by the turn of events you just described. Please continue."

Is "berk" rhyming slang? My Dad calls people (mainly other drivers) berks all the time. If it's something dirty, I'm not sure I want to know.
He also shouts DAMNATION, HELLFIRE! when something goes wrong.

I love, love, love-ity love the term "big girl's blouse." The closest definition I can find/figure out is that it is some kind of wussy behavior.
For instance, if someone was afraid to go into the ocean because there might be a shark, you would say to them: "Don't be such a big girl's blouse and get in the damn water!"
