Mark Twain makes quite a persuasive case, IMHO.
Back on topic: I don't know which group is worse: the Samantha Carter/Jack O'Neill Stargate SG1 shippers or the Buffy/Angel shippers. Both are thoroughly obnoxious, 'One Twu Pairing', fanatics who are impervious to logic.
Either group will fly into a screaming rage at the very suggestion that the principals involved just might have had healthy, successful relationship with others or that there could be legitimate obstacles to the chosen pair living happily ever after.

Suddenly, Durannies are looking a whole lot more normal.
Yeah, and Emily Dickinson was too much of a recluse to have written such brilliant poems.
What kind of logic is that?
Besides, most of the plots of Shakespeare's plays were already common fodder for most playwrites. Much like, say, the average sitcom today.

Some of the Jack/Daniel (Stargate SG1) slashers are unbelievably scary people too. Logic doesn't so much fly out of the window, as dig a tunnel to escape them.

As for Biblical Slash---I can't get too worked up over it. Jesus did hang out with prostitutes. And there have been main stream (DC/Marvel stuff) comics that have written a form of slash about the Archangels. Lucifer has his own comic book (again MainStream) in which he is the hero---misunderstood by all---but he is the hero. And thanks for the Suala link. I never watch American Idol; I could go to Karoke night and see comparable singers. But I loved that Psychic Predictions for Suala. I psychically predict that Simon will have a fight with his girlfriend over sex (practice and determination). And Paula will perform her nasal orifices orisons tonight and feel the righteous buzz. ;D

I've always been bothered by people who seem to think that Labyrinth's Jareth and Sarah love each other. For Christ's sake, he wanted to make a slave out of her. If you watch the DVD, even David Bowie himself draws a distinction. I'm pretty sure he said that his character was bored. Doesn't sound a whole lot like love, I think. And don't get me started on the repeated ad nauseum use of the question "Is it a sock?"
Hell, I was so bored and antagonized at one point, I wrote a fanfic with the most logical explanation of why it wasn't love. I actually got a comment saying..."But they're supposed to be in love, right?"
It was a Mary Sue fanfic. Yes, I was in it. But I did it to prove a point. Nyah.
Okay, more to the topic we go: I've been known to antagonize a Britney Spears fan or two. My favorite comment of all time from any Britney fan:
"Haven't you learned anything from 9/11?"
Okay, so she was trying to say that I was like a terrorist: I (the apparent Bin Laden) just wanted to tear down poor, unfortunate Britney (the US) because I was just jealous. And I shouldn't do that! I should leave defenseless lil' Britney alone.
Funny how I never got a response when I challenged her on that comment.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but... What in the name of all that's Holy is a 'Furry'?

"Furries" or "Furry Fans" are folks that are fans of cartoons and other media that feature anthropomorphic animals (think Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse). There are cons where folks show up dressed as anthro-animals, and some folks have developed that into a sexual fetish. The good folks at Wikipedia have a rundown on the topic. I think the Geek Hierarchy needs to be revised tho; surely the CTWS needs to be ranked at the bottom rung.
