I can’t link bc I’m on my phone but Keanu Reeves’s girlfriend Alexandra Grant has been granted a restraining order against one of KR’s fans who was stalking her.

Yeah, the entitlement is always strong. The Driver fandom is a nice place for the most part, with pictures and squeeing over fave movies. It's good to relax. But then they have the section that constantly rags on his wife and hijacks online seminars of his charity to obsess over him. And then they're miffed that he's not been sighted since the beginning of the pandemic. Like, dudes, if you go on like this, you'll see him again in 2025, perhaps. To be fair, the majority of the fans is ashamed of this kind of behaviour. But it just takes a few obsessive ones to ruin it for everyone.

This is why I am wary of any kind of fandom around celebrities. There are some whose work I love. And yes, I geeked out on certain celebrities as a teenager (no stalking and nothing extreme!). But now? I'm too squicked out.

Not that people didn't go to extremes 30 years ago, but not to the extent they do now.

Not that people didn't go to extremes 30 years ago, but not to the extent they do now. I think it makes it easier for the extreme fans to find each other and convince each other it's true love/not at all weird/completely normal. At least when it was one teenager secretly sobbing over Teen Heartthrob TM, she only had a couple of best friends telling her she'd totally have a chance with him if only he wasn't dating Teeny McSoapstar. And, at some point, the teenager matured and moved on from her elaborate plans to accidentally meet him so they could fall in love. Now, it's gangs of middle-aged women convincing each other they deserve to be with Hot Successful Actor TM instead of his Golddigger GF who's blackmailing and manipulating him. At least back in the days of yore, if that middle-aged woman declared she needed to stage an intervention to 'save' a fully grown complete stranger from marrying his pregnant gf, she'd receive an intervention of her very own.

I just saw this quote from Robert Pattinson that sums up the way some fans think: LOL! I love this quote! On a different note, I remember Anna Gunn, the actress who played Skyler White, wrote a New York Times op ed about fan hatred of the character. Someone wrote on a message board, "Could somebody tell me where I can find Anna Gunn so I can kill her?" UGH! No! This! Is! Not! Okay! It is one thing to hate a fictional character but leave the actor alone! Look, I used to make jokes about Wesley Crusher (even wrote a fan fic where he is beaten up), but Wil Wheaton always seemed like a decent guy. They are NOT the same person, and I have no problem snarking on the character because of course it isn't an attack on the actor. Besides, Wheaton was a child when he played that role.

Wesley was not a great character, but I didn’t hate him.
Wheaton? Anybody cool enough that Jeri Ryan will come over and play Settlers of Catan with him, well, that dude is off the charts cool.

Also, I love how he wholeheartedly embraced the "Wil Wheaton" character on The Big Bang Theory, playing an evil version of himself.
