More grist for our Canadian gloat mills (and, specifically, my BC gloat mill): Granville Island in Vancouver named best neighboUrhood in all of North America: Linkand LinkOut of 20, the Plateau in Montreal came 7th - I've lived there, but never actually in Vancouver.

Oh, I will. I truly love hot chocolate and chocolate milk. It's an addiction that I don't want to kick.
That tourney sounds nice, Benni. I love that they set up the program (can't remember what it's called) where a young hockey player gets to skate around during the opening with the actual hockey players. They do this in the WHL, and I'm certain they do this in the rest of the CHL, as well as the NHL. And when they have the teams playing during the intermission? So cute, especially when they are really young and keep falling down. It must so exciting to have everyone cheer when they score.

I walk past them all but I refuse to stand in line for a coffee! There are 2 Timmies in College Park that I have noticed are always packed. One is right at the corner of Yonge and College and the second one is on the lower level in the Food Court and it always has at least 50 people waiting at any given time. I won't wait in line. I mean it's cheap and it's good... but it's not THAT good!

I wonder how many Canadians there are on the board out of the 1607 snarkers.
I also wanted to say how much I used to laugh at the Stan Mikita Coffee Shop thing in Wayne's World back when I used to love Mike Meyer's.
My sister works in a huge hotel in Vancouver and he stayed there with his wife for a week. His wife drove everybody FRICKIN' crazy. She would stay in the hotel all day following my sister who is the concierge and really busy around all day telling her just how wonderful Mike was. My sister would try to persuade her to go shopping or just do something. When Mike got back from wherever he would put his arm around her then make whooo-hoo crazy faces behind her back at my sister. Just like he totally got off on how crazy she was.

bagatelle, I know how you feel but I don't mind standing in line for coffee. The Timmies in College Park always have line-ups but I find that by the time I take out my coin purse, I'm at the front of the line. I think they usually have at least 3-4 people taking your orders so it goes pretty fast.
This is the first I've heard anything about the Pay It Forward thing. It sounds interesting, but I wouldn't want to pay for someone who's ordering a ton of things. I have a question: Is the Pay It Forward thing only for drive-thrus? Could you go inside to avoid paying for someone else's orders?

I went to a friend's wedding in Toronto last year, and I am TOTALLY moving there when I retire. Coolest city I have ever been to, including New Orleans, San Fran, Chitown and NYC. (What? I've never been able to go overseas!)
Add to that: BNL, Kids in the Hall, SCTV, the MacKenzie Bros....yes, Alanis (shut up!) need I go on?

Am I the only Canadian who does not like Great Big Sea? I wish them no ill will, their music is simply not for me. I had to go to their concert with my boss, and I wanted to die. (Other people there were openly mocking me because I was just standing there. I couldn't even drink to numb the pain because my boss thinks poorly of people who drink.)

I had to look up Great Big Sea. I guess I'm a hick because I haven't heard of them. Although I am sure I will be aware of them from now on.
Regarding Pay it Forward. They only do it in the Drive-Thru. It started out just buying each other's coffees but some do-gooders buy the whole order. NOT ME when I get caught I just buy the truck behind me coffees. On the radio this morning the hosts were talking and laughing about when tourists come through this summer they are all going to think Albertans are Oh so nice for buying their coffees for them.

Thanks for clearing up the Pay It Forward thing, Benni - I was wondering the same things Starstruck was wondering.
Great Big Sea don't really cross my rural west coast radar much, and when I hear them they make me think of the east coast. It's kind of strange living in this country - I've never been east of Montreal and just in terms of familiarity I would feel more at home in Washington State than in PEI or Nova Scotia. I feel guilty about that and am always planning some kind of epic X-country road trip in my mind. I'd like to see all the regions of my country, but it's so damned big!

I've always wanted to go to Montreal. There, I said it. (Put down those pitchforks, my fellow Albertans) It's just...it's expensive and far away. And then there's the fact that they speak French. This wouldn't be so bad, but my French is pretty much cereal-box based.
But I would highly recommend Halifax and environs. It is just stunning, and Halifax really felt more like a small town to me than a capital city. I'd go back there in a heartbeat.
