Ellen Page came out yesterday. She is so cute. I read somewhere that she is dating or did date Clea Duvall.

Obviously he's not famous, but my best friend's 13 year old grandson just came out to his immediate and extended family members who are nothing but loving and supportive, even though they're mostly rural, redneck, rightwing, Republicans.

Obviously he's not famous, but my best friend's 13 year old grandson just came out to his immediate and extended family members who are nothing but loving and supportive, even though they're mostly rural, redneck, rightwing, Republicans. PROGRESS!! And still kinda on topic, but not in the Hollywood sense... Virginia (where my butt is currently planted) is more than likely going to lift their ban on same sex marriage. It's been declared unconstitutional by the folks who make laws and at the moment is in appeals. Hopefully, common sense will prevail and le ban she will be lifted. But in the meantime, a lay leader at my church published a letter to the editor at the local newspaper on behalf of all of us saying that we support the lifting of the ban and encourage our law makers to do the right thing. Well, it was all well and good for the most part, but I wish he had consulted some other folks in the church (or at least me) before getting it printed, because there was one sentence he put in there that I didn't agree with and didn't feel 100% comfortable having been spoken on my (and everyone else in the church's) behalf. He stated that we were declaring our support for the ban-lift because we 'knew many other local churches would be voicing their objection to it'. That, I couldn't fully get behind because A) It's a little combative and inflammatory. and B) So far, no other churches HAD voiced any opposition to striking down the ban. It's true we live in a VERY concervative little community and for the most part are the only liberal church on the block. But me feeling is, give these other guys the benefit of the doubt first. Yes, in the past- the very recent past in fact- there would be a lot of grumbling on the parts of these folks about Big Gub'ment muckin' around and striking down the 'Godly' laws the State of Va. had created (I mean... there's a reason we have such a ban in the first place. A majority voted to put it in place 5 years ago [insert vomit smiley]) But that WAS 5 years ago. And now the majority of voters chocked our state full of Demmycrat leaders- and now the ban has been revisited, declared unconstitutional and will more than likely be lifted, allowing for marriage equality in this State. That's not going to make everyone happy of course. But so far, no one has written any angry letters. (At least no to our little paper) I'm not naive enough to think no angry letters will be forthcoming. But until they do, I say, give 'em a chance to do the right thing and let it be. They may not be happy- but they may be resigned to the inevitable. And maybe....juuuuuusssssst maybe- enough has changed in the past 5 years that even the folks who voted to create the ban would maybe juuuuuuussssst maybe vote differently now. Again, PROGRESS says I!!

It's progress and progress is good! And it's happening a lot faster than I expected. The fight for equal rights isn't close to being done, but when rightwing Christians, like my friend's family, take a stand against their church to support gay rights, you know progress is happening in peoples hearts.
