I am among the converted. For me, it's a combination of slow-burn magma energy, a vague brooding, and also extreme competence in his acting. Also, tall and broad about the shoulders. It caught me off guard because I was like, wow, that guy is all angles and not pretty at all, and then blammo! Definitely not pretty, but appealing and attractive in non-traditional ways. Same. I barely checked out "Girls" when it first started and quickly decided it wasn't for me, and wasn't all that impressed with his looks at the time. But now that I've seen more of him and his acting, he definitely falls into that "There's just something about him" category.

Yeah, Driver isn't conventionally attractive. He's probably even downright odd-looking LOL. But as described, for the people it works, it's probably a combination of looks (tall and strong, distinctive facial features) and his acting. "Girls" really had that effect on me: Here's this weirdo creepy boyfriend, okay how strange. And the more they had him do, the more it became clear what a good performer he is, how charismatic and nuanced. It can be very surprising, seeing that on screen. And that adds to the fascination. Agree that the same effect made him perfectly cast as Kylo Ren: It's repulsive, but also strangely fascinating/hypnotic. Doesn't work for everyone, of course. But I think for the people it works, that's how the phenomenon functions. ;-)
But it's all so subjective. I don't get Chalamet, for example. At all. This combination of try-hard hipsterism and childlike demeanor? Nope. Also haven't been impressed by any of his performances, though I haven't seen "Call Me By Your Name", to be fair.

OMG, thank you for describing the whole Girls thing. I never watched Girls in real time because I didn't have HBO, and the only time I watched it is after I already had a raging crush on Adam Driver. (and his scenes made me blush for real!) But my crush just got stronger! I think he's an interesting case study to be honest. His talent makes him more attractive, but he's not conventionally handsome -- it's only after you are familiar with him and his talent that you understand his appeal. Is there a word for that? But honest to God, I gasped when I saw the first pictures from The Last Duel released.

I don't get the fawning over Adam Driver as "hot". Good actor? Sure, but he looks like the result of a Bassett hound and a giraffe mating. I'm thinking it's because he's the current "it" guy. That is a perfect description. I have never really seen the hot with him. It's an ugly hot. He's talented and has charisma. So when you've seen him in movies you feel like you connect to him. He's not traditionally handsome so fans feel that connection of "I could totally get this guy..." And then, it takes off. It's like Howard Stern's (former) popularity.

I get Driver’s appeal more than I get Timothee SwissChalet’s.

Timothee looks like a Morton's toe. I really don't see the alleged dreaminess (or whatever), but I am old and he's very young. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to watching 40 year old INXS videos with a 20 year old Michael Hutchence.

Now you have me thinking of the missed opportunity I had when I fell into early 90s Michael Hutchence lap as he tried to get from The Westbury hotel to his Limo, I froze apologized and stared at him nothing else, his security had to tell me move and breathe. God he was beautiful. Timothee schimothee! Not even within a continent /planetary distance of being close the beauty that was Young Hutchence.
On Adam Driver I’ve seen a meme or some such where it’s says ..Adam Driver looks like someone tried to draw Keanu Reeves from memory. I lolled, I did!
Driver Smiver, Not even within a continent /planetary distance of being close the beauty that is my internet husband Keanu Reeves

Re: Bo Derek. I remember watching an English-language telenovela in the limbo period right after UPN and The WB merged in which she starred. Her acting was so, so terrible. Some typical soap opera stuff would happen, like another character hurling a dramatic insult or her learning the husband she thought was long dead was actually alive. Then the camera would cut to her to get a full shot of her face, and there was no change in expression whatsoever. Literally no movement from the neck up except blinking. I don't know if her face was so shot up with Botox that it was immobile, or if her acting instinct was so bad that doing nothing seemed appropriate. Maybe both.
Re: Timothee Chalomet. Wiki says he's 24 but he looks much younger, like a pale, emo teen who writes embarrassingly earnest crappy poetry. The sparse mustache is counterproductive and actually makes him look younger because it's so wispy.
ETA: I remembered Morgan Fairchild was in the same telenovela and she acted circles around Bo Derek. Really.

ETA: I remembered Morgan Fairchild was in the same telenovela and she acted circles around Bo Derek. Really. I saw Timothee SwissChalet for the first time at the Oscars weeks ago and seriously didn’t get it - with the too tight pants on his skinny shanks. I looked up his images just now, and he looks like an anemic Tom Hiddleston. Which is weird because Tom Hiddleston looks like an anemic Tom Hiddleston. Ah, but Tom Hiddleston is charming and dances, until he blow that noise by wearing that stupid Taylor Swift shirt, then all the charm flushed right out of him. Morgan Fairchild is a kickass actor. Just watch her in Peewee’s Big Adventure, and I am not even kidding. Peewee’s B A was directed by Tim Burton, and music by Danny freakin’ Elfman. It’s a classic. “I don’t have to see it, Dottie...I lived it.” Famvir family most quoted movie line.

I looked up his images just now, and he looks like an anemic Tom Hiddleston. He's very petite. Like if he's over 120 lbs soaking wet I'd be shocked. Re: Adam Driver. I appreciate his talent, but the dude is totally unattractive to me.
