Going to back to the embargoed mystery release, is it possible that it is the long-awaited Andrew Morton biography of Tom Cruise?
I keep bugging my boyfriend about it but no one has mentioned it there. I, on the other hand, am barking with curiousity. Woof woof!

If it is the CTC biography I can't wait to read it.
There's this series of YA type books I can't remember the name of. My friends and I used to pass them around in high school. The books were set on a really small island town. They were this group of teenagers, maybe seniors or juniors in high school, and the narrator jumped from character to character. The storylines got kind of 'incestuous' since they lived in such a small town. One of them got in trouble for a car accident that one of the others had caused, and another was named Nina and she liked to hold a cigarette in her mouth without smoking it. There was another guy who was blind. I can't remember what it was called at all.

I think it was mentioned upthread that a different publishing house is putting out the Morton book, so this can't be it. Sucks, doesn't it?

I just read today that it's about Princess Diana. According to CNN. snore. She's dead. What more is there to say?

There was a book I read back in the 80's that had a kind of Jackie Collins, Pat Booth feel to it. Only thing I can remember is a character similar to Michael Jackson (the 80's version) named Toomie Bartholomew. Any ideas? This has driven me nuts for years.

I managed a Nelson Muntz, but what a waste of my last shred of enthusiasm. Sigh. Has anyone read the newish Mysterious Flame of Queen Loana, by Umberto Eco? I'm not the hugest Eco fan, but the premise seemed interesting, if a tad Eternal Sunshine.

Are ya'll sure it's not the new Joe Eszterhas tell-all, The Devil's Guide to Hollywood that is coming out in two weeks or so? It has tons of celebrity dirt in it, and it fits in with the rest of the clues.
ETA: Never mind, I didn't see the Diana thing. Whatever! I'm way more interested in the Eszterhas book!

Me too, mariposalabrown. It's just not an interesting reveal. Plus, serializing it in The Daily Mail defeats the "oooooh, MYSTERY!" aspect of the run-up to the release, and I guarantee will drive down both perusals and sales of the title. Also, I'm kinda pissed about all of this, as I made my last day at the bookstore the 12th just to see what the book was. I could've been free sooner, no thanks to you Mr. Burrell.

Does anyone know this book:
It's fairly recent, it was about a woman and her friend who were either kidnapped and/or attacked in the desert. The author survived and wrote about the experience and her recovery.

poorfrances, was it about the backpacker murders in Australia? The survivor of the pair, Joanne Lees, has a book forthcoming but apparently it's not available in the US.
