No, this one was reviewed in People magazine several months back. It took place somewhere in the American Southwest.

Yes! That's it. Funny, I thought Paradise was in the title but figured I had to be mistaken.

This is a YA series I've read when, well, I was a young adult. They were all about figure skating. The characters were the same from one book to another, with some additions. I distinctly remember one book about a skater who immigrated from Russia. One of the books (maybe the last one) was times to coincide with the 1998 Olympic Games where Tara Lipinski won, and there was a character "inspired" by Tara (also 15, I think) who won the Olympic Games in the book.
Any ideas?

Ok, I've read this book with a purple cover when I was about 10 (I'm almost 22 now). It was about this girl who wanted to travel to this mountain that she could see outside her window, but when she actually reaches it, the mountain is magical. And there were scenes with rainbow colored snow that the girl could only cross if she cried on it, magic stone gargoyles, a blue marble that could make her go invisible, and of cource, a wicked witch. I'm going crazy looking for this book. I should have done what all the cool kids did in my elementary school and borrowed it from the library and never have given it back.

Margo, are you thinking of the Silver Blades series by Melissa Lowell? There's one called Chance of a Lifetime, published in 1998, where "Tori" (maybe the Tara Lipinski character) goes to the Olympics. An Amazon search brings up tons of this series.

WCG, I think that one is called The Farthest-Away Mountain. I loved it too! The heroine's name was Dakin and the different colors of snow had different powers, right?

This book has driven me crazy for years. I read it in elementary school in the '80s, but I think the book was older. Two artists were moving their family to the country when the mother was in a horrific accident. The daughter took it upon herself to handle the renovation of the house, and my best remembered detail was that she picked absolutely plain wallpaper because it would look best with her mom's art. I think she also solved a mystery and sold some painting along the way. Anyone have an idea?

Does anyone know this book: It's fairly recent, it was about a woman and her friend who were either kidnapped and/or attacked in the desert. The author survived and wrote about the experience and her recovery. Strange Piece of Paradise. I kept trying to nominate it for a book club book earlier this summer so I just had to search my gmail for "paradise". Let me know how that is. No one ever wanted to read it in my group

I have no idea why I thought of this, but it's driving me crazy that I can't remember. There was a book I read a few years ago, I think it was a historical romance. All I remember is that there was a guy named Navarro (I think) who came to work on this woman's family's farm, and the woman fell in love with him and got pregnant, but then he had to leave (I forget why) and she ended up marrying someone else. And in the end, I think he comes back and looks in their window or something and sees them all happy, and decides to leave her alone. I doubt it was a popular book, and I know I didn't do a good job explaining it. But it's making me crazy that I can't remember the book! ETA: Never mind, I found it. It's called "Follow the Wind."
