Now I feel like I should apologize, or at least have prepared you better. I believe I actually yelped out loud the first time I read it.
I liked Cap in all the books, but the moment where he owned my eight year old self is when Almanzo was debating about going to pick up Laura from the Booths because of the weather, and Cap smiled at him and said "God hates a coward." Well, that and when he saves all the kids from dying in the Long Winter when the adults are trying to lead them out in the prairie and he goes for help. And then when he goes with Almanzo to get the wheat. Cap was dreamy.

And when the book described the look in his glittering eyes that made even the toughest railroad man back down. And I still love the scene in The Long Winter where all the townspeople are arguing over the high prices for the wheat that the greedy grocer has set, and he and Almanzo speak up--I loved it that they were basically all grown men, and Cap, who was just eighteen or so, was able to hold his own and that the men really listened to him as an equal.

Someone mentioned Dream/Morpheus from Neil Gaimans' Sandman upthread, and I just have to second it. So pale, so interesting, so tortured. Sigh. I sort of have a book crush on Destruction too. Now *that's* a man, man.

I really would have loved to have been Jay Gatsby's object of affection. Or perhaps it was obsession. Either way I thought he was an unbelievably romantic figure. Stupid Daisy.
Back when I was a teen and moody and difficult was really attractive, I wanted Dev the rock star from Easy Connection. Although my affection keeps wavering because of his initial meeting with Cathy.
And I had a girl crush on both Ruth and Idgie from Fried Green Tomatoes. I could never settle on who was my favourite. They are one of my favourite book couples.

I've only read his book in that series, but I really liked it and his character. I can't tell you based on what he's like in the other books, but in his book he is exactly as you describe (and there are a few funny moments with him loosening up a bit). So don't be too afraid to read it, because it works out pretty well.

You are right, Larisa! I couldn't resist, so I read his book today, and I can report that my crush came through unscathed. I think it's my favorite book in the series....

I recently re-read Easy Connections and am about to start the sequel and I still think Dev is hot in an asshole kind of way.

Just a few for today...
Razhumikin (Crime and Punishment - the best friend). What's not to love?
Charles Ryder (Brideshead Revisited) - my favorite novel, and I adore Jeremy Irons.
Anatole (The Poisonwood Bible)

I've always had a crush on Almanzo Wilder. It started when Laura first spotted him in By the Shores of Silver Lake. Almanzo and his brother Royal (their parents were creative with their names) were driving his sleek, beautiful horses, and I think in Laura's eyes (or at least in my eyes) he must have looked very worldly and um, manly. He was probably a man who could have had any woman he wanted, so I love it that he fell for Laura, this strong, spirited girl who came from very humble beginnings, at least compared to his own life. I always suspected that his family never approved of her, yet it didn't seem to matter to him. He was so charming. He drove for miles in freezing weather to bring Laura home for the weekends, simply because he could sense she was utterly miserable in the home she was boarding at while teaching. His idea of a great date was taming his wild horses---no sexual euphemism there, although it does sound hot. He just always came across as this great, charismatic, capable, handsome man. I still swoon over him.

I found myself crushing on Landen Parke-Laine from the Thursday Next books - only, I'm about halfway through the second book and - oh! Why did that happen? Can somebody reassure me please? He and Thursday are so fab (and to be honest, I'm struggling a bit with them - I bought the first three having heard wonderful things, but I'm not really getting into them. Landen and Thursday was helping)
