I love my EW (no comments re its relation to my bathroom habits). The one thing I do not like is Stephen King's column. There's an occasional one that I don't *completely* hate, but look at his last one as an example. He flipped channels for 1/2 hour and then wrote down what was on each channel. the rest of the time he writes his favourite books, his favourite movies, his favourite tv shows, his favourite music - just lists. Their back page has always been a problem but he's the worst iIMHO.
Otherwise, love it!

For serious. Every time I read him refer to himself as "Uncle Stevie" I need to reach around behind me in the medicine cabinet for a Xanax.

So much of their content is just by-the-numbers list-making. New author or not, the "Hit List" is the most pedestrian writing imaginable, and the "Five things you should know about..." and "Must List" and "Shaw Report" read as if they were dashed off while the author was using the bathroom. Do they hire these people by hanging around Burbank and seeing who gets fired as a writer for Jay Leno?

I was a subscriber for a long time but when they started having more gossip stuff and lists with less actual entertainment content, I just stopped reading the magazine front to back and didn't renew. I do visit ew.com fairly regularly and enjoy some of the pop culture blogging that goes on there but the magazine stopped being in-depth enough for me. Maybe I should check it out again and see if they have found a nice balance between gossip and entertainment reporting. When I stopped subscribing, it seemed like they were on a downward spiral into US Weekly territory (exaggeration). Maybe things are better now.

IMO, Not really, ThursdayNext. I've been a subscriber since 1998, and my current subscription is up for renewal in March. I won't be renewing. I don't know if it's gotten worse or if I've just outgrown it, but it seems to have been in steady decline for the past couple of years.

IThe one thing I do not like is Stephen King's column. It's so bad, there's really no excuse for it. If he's not Uncle Steve-ing and lecturing about the emptiness of fame and how it led to Anna Nicole's death, he's doing the world's most tiresome Dave Barry impression. Yet I read it every time, because I read every stupid blurb and pointless list in the damn magazine.

What I dislike about the magazine is how narrow the scope is. The movies, tv shows, music, etc. that gets coverage is all very mainstream and repetitive. I get that they want to sell issues and "Grey's Anatomy" is the number one show, but they need to diversify.

I just canceled my subscription. It was easy - my interest in the magazine has been falling for a while, until it got to the point where the last 3 issues were lying on my night table, and I had absolutely no desire to read them. Moreover, I stopped watching TV about a year ago (and never watched any of the popular shows in the first place), so all their TV articles fall between useless and annoying.

I don't watch any of the popular shows either, but for some reason I always enjoy reading about them. I also generally enjoy the book review section and of course TV Watch - funny. I still hate Stephen King's columns. His latest about how the government needs a "Department of Fun" was the lamest thing I've ever read by him (and I think all his stuff is lame).
