I just finished Strange Love by Ann Aguirre. It's subtitled An Alien Abduction Romance, and it was very good! Beryl is accidentally stolen from Earth when Zylar's AI malfunctions on the way to pick up Zylar's real fiance (not from earth). They can't find Earth again and they're forced go back to Zylar's planet for The Choosing, a sort of gladiator battle for the right to get married. It's Zylar's last chance to win a spouse before he's busted down from a high society position to become a drone worker. Beryl has the less developed character, an orphan with a dog. It made the loss of everything she knew a lot easier than if she had family to go back to, but she took her new surroundings in stride. The end of the book kind of evened out their circumstances though.

I'm in a romance reading slump. I've started and abandoned more books than I've finished recently. I love me a good HEA, and to be honest, these last four years, I've really needed them, so a majority of my reading has been romance. I may have to take a break from the genre and come back later. (A palate cleanser, if you will.)
But I WILL BE BACK!!! This genre gets too little respect and love from the masses, but it's been a staple for me since I was 12.

I was just scrolling through Twitter and an author I like shared a post about Hot Rabbi, and it sounded so good I bought it. The author shared that there are varying levels of religious observance by the characters. The heroine is non-practicing, and the hero is a rabbi with a child.

Dear Diana Quincy,
Human women have public pubic hair, not "fur". You just went on my "ugh, so bad" list.
No love, C.
Corrected, thanks for catching that MrsP! ::embarrassed face::

Since both of my kids play hockey and my husband coaches, I follow a lot of hockey accounts on IG so I have things to talk to the kids about (ha that sounds sad but they are teens so I’ll relate however I can!). Well now Instagram keeps shoving these “hot hockey player with the shy retiring woman in some little town” romance novels in my feed. All. The time.

Ok so Facebook keeps showing me excerpts of these Werewolves novels that one has to download an App to read, and which then turns out to be payable by chapter and very expensive. They are so very bad. Like just cringe and cliched. A bullied Werewolf is rescued by the Alpha of the pack when it turns out tha they are each others ‘mates’ as per the moon Goddess, is the perpetual trope.
But to my shame I have started reading the Fb excerpts and they always end on some cliffhanger and now I actually do want to read one damn novel. Are there any downloadable on Kindle for a reasonable book price? Or better yet just on phone for free because I share the Kindle account with my mother and sister and don’t think I can have this known outside of a non Anonymous forum. And does anyone else read? I know they are so bad, but as far as that badness goes, which ones are kind of the best bad ones? If I’m going to read anyway.

Some of those books are available on Kindle and are much cheaper that way. I’ve found some via Unlimited, so I don’t mind the cheesy plots and poor character development because they are so soap opera-y. (Miss my ABC stories!)
One story I got hooked on via a Facebook excerpt, so I downloaded the app (Radish??), but then I discovered it would cost me over $100 to purchase the entire book, so I noped out and deleted the app. I don’t mind paying for books, but that is excessive, particularly when the book is not professionally edited/proofread and the authors get almost none of the money.
