The Dionaea House is a fic I think about a lot. Rarely have I read anything spookier or more creative. I mean, if the critique of the story I read is accurate, the concept is based on the idea that the house is a venus fly trap. That's why a character tells the audience: "They are not houses...Stop thinking of them as houses."
This is actually something I'm trying to capture in my own work, dangerous elements from nature turned into monsters/villains in horror and suspense fic. Nature has a lot to teach us about what is horrifying.

Ah, just went and reread the Dionaea House. And Googled the author this time. Now, instead of lingering unease, I'm left with warm fuzzies after learning that Eric became a successful horror-franchise screenwriter and married a smart, beautiful woman.
I felt a tiny chill when I saw that their wedding officiant was named Venus, though.

I'm currently reading The Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill, aka Stephen King's son. Boy, talk about a chip off the old block - not only can he write, his book has scared the bejeebers out of me several times. (Plus, it's eerie how much his author photo resembles his old man around the Carrie years.)
