ronette, do not deny yourself the experience of the purplest of prose. Maybe it was? June Foray did Rocky's voice, and she did tons of other voice acting. Rocky the squirrel? Dudes, isn't that Alison Arngrim (Nellie Oleson)'s mom?! Nellie + Cathy = WINNING!

You should most definately read Seeds of Yesterday. It's my favorite of the Dollanganger series.
Cathy is almost unrecognizable in this book though. But it's ok because her son and daughter are so messed up and badass.
I am rereading My Sweet Audrina right now. It's been a few years since I have read it. Seriously one of the most sick, twisted books around. Puts just about anything Stephen King has written to shame on the sickness scale.
I still think Fanny from the Heaven series is V.C. Andrews most badass character. But damn, Vera comes in a close second.
It would have been awesome to get a crossover book. I can see Vera and Bart (Cathy's son) together.

Kathy, a Vera/Bart crossover book might be the BEST! IDEA! EVAR!
I wonder if there was ever any though of ol' Virginia Cleo going on with another Audrina book. Doubtful, I know, but I'm sure she'd been asked. And the father was still alive, so....

I reread "Dark Angel" this week for the first time in, IDK, twenty or so years? I enjoyed it thoroughly and remembered how adult I felt reading this (granted, I was in 7th grade).
I remember our school librarian being pissed off that so many girls (and some boys) in our middle school were reading V.C. Andrews books. I asked her one day why the school library didn't have them and she barked out, "Because they're trash!"
"If they're trash, why are so many people reading them?" I calmly replied.
She didn't respond.
I would love to see a movie made of "My Sweet Audrina". Trivia tidbit: starlet Audrina Partridge is named for the title character. Maybe that explains her strange wonk-eyes?

I'd also love to see a movie of "My Sweet Audrina". Either that, or an over-dramatic stage adaptation cast entirely with earnest theatre geeks.

Our school library (grades 7-12) had a few of them, but then again they also had a copy of Mein Kampf which hadn't been borrowed in at least a decade. I remember in sixth grade one girl asked if she could do a book report on Flowers in the Attic.

So after Flowers & Petals, I'm wondering if I really need to read about Cathy's children and grandchildren or if I should just skip to the prequel and be done with it. Oh hell yes you have to read about the children. Cathy and Chris having attic sex is one thing, but Jory and Bart (Cathy's sons) are a total trainwreck. These books are where it gets weird.

The adopted daughter also manages to make Cathy look like a fully functional adult.

The adopted daughter also manages to make Cathy look like a fully functional adult. And then there're all the plot holes and "twists" that totally aren't. But really, Cindy should have a sequel. It could be called Fertilized Roots, or perhaps Hybrid Blossoms because you KNOW she and Bart hook up.

Thanks to this thread, I'm now re-reading V.C. Andrews books, after 5+ years. I remember my Mother reading Flowers in the Attic. I couldn't wait to read it for myself. By the time I was old enough, Heaven was new, and was my gateway to V.C. Andrews. Heaven is my favorite, hands down. Pa was a beautiful diaster who drove Sarah crazy, ignored Heaven, and had Misd. Deale hot for him. Fanny, Fanny, Fanny, a HAM, as a child and adult. Our Jane annoyed me. I want a boyfriend like Logan, well all the way up until he sleeps with Fanny. Overall very good book, with no incest! Why didn't the kids get free lunch? Where was DCFS? I'm still naming my first child Heaven Leigh!
My Sweet Audrina is one of the scariest books I've ever read.
